change from cs3 to cs

carogarza

hi!
i need to change some documents from indesign cs3 to cs.
can someone tell me exactly how to do it??

i’ve already exported the documents as indesign interchange
then, i opened them in cs2, saved the document and exported it again
to be ready to open in cs, and it isn’t working..

am i doing something wrong?? is there a simpler way to do it?

can someone help me?
thanks in advance!

File-> Export InDesign Interchange format. No need to take it into CS2, you should be able to open the .inx file within InDesign CS. Not all features may work or be imported correctly though.

Hi Carolina,

have a look at these articles:
Save backwards to previous InDesign versions
Can’t save InDesign documents to an earlier version

I’m afraid this is not correct.

1. Export from CS3 as INX
2. Open in CS2 (and make sure CS2 is updated to the newest version = 4.0.5)
3. Export from CS2 as INX
3. Open in CS (and make sure CS is updated to the newest version = 3.0.1)

florian!!!!

i can’t thank you enough!!!!

it did work!!!

i also needed to download an update for CS

http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=2448

and the documents did opened correctley!!

thanks a lot!!!!

Thanks for the correction Florian.

No problemo.
I wish the procedure was easier. On the other hand, introducing new features jars with retaining 100% backwards compatibility – and we do love those new features, don’t we?
At least there is some way.

If Adobe would provide some info re their XML-encoding, writing a utility that could process the various flavours of ID-files would be doable. At least, that’s what I hear from smarter people…

Before the update to CS2 came along that allowed some backward compatibility, I would open both versions of InDesign, and copy-paste the content of the pages by hand. Surprisingly, it often worked quite well.

Starting in CS4, InDesign documents can be saved in InDesign Markup Language (IDML). InDesign Markup Language is an XML- based file format that allows developers to assemble and disassemble InDesign documents using standard XML tools and without having to open INDD files. From ID CS4 What’s new

Miguel that is great to hear! I wonder what is already being built by smart programmers now… Do you have any inside info regarding this, perhaps?
