From 2 and 3 I get the impression of a company linked to the broadcasting industry. From the versions of 1, which I would like to see with your thoughts of colour if it is to have the red, blue and yellow, I can see a, possibly too obvious, play on stitch and hyphen but I don't get a complicated, passionate, detailed approach, maybe seen with product(s) or in a context with them it could work in the way a simple versus complex juxtaposition. Of the three I would pursue the first to develop with the aim of refinement but also to see if anything else strikes you in that direction.

Thanks for your comments. Notes taken. Especially I see some missing things with #1 related to passion and detail approach as you timd suggest. I will incorporate that in my next refinement.

In the meantime I'm also sending some other ideas I've been playing with for a bit. YOu can also comment on this if you like. I guess that most of them are better than #2 and #3 were in the first preliminaries.

They are deliberately numbered with letters so I won't get confused whether they are related to the first or this post.

I've made a very slight change to #1 that gives it a bit more soft feeling and sophistication. Input very welcome... Didn't know how to include colours yet. I wanted to colour each letter with a different colour but I think it doesn't work.

One more iteration.

I wasn't able to include three colours into this logo. Instead there's only one. I'll consult my client what colour they'd want, but I'm leaning toward red.

I tried to make curvy horizontal lines on "E" and "A" but it wasn't visible enough so it didn't really add anything. It looked more like an error than anything else. Check it out in the second PDF added to original post.

I'm also thinking of a changed logo that will be used for embroidery. Less letter spacing and a bit thicker lines.

What do you think so far? Is this logo any good? Is it distinctive/memorable? I've been looking at it far too long...

It covers the bases of fine, professional, dedicated and accurate. I suppose the proof would be if they could use it on their product, whether it is possible to embroider that shape at a smallish size.

Thanks timd. Just a kind of encouragement I needed. I'm already working on stationary. And as mentioned I'll make a bit heavier logo for embroidery work. It should be ok since embroidery is almost never smaller than 3cm (depending whether it's vertical or horizontal).

I'll send business card design as well when client acknowledges it.

I'll show them this design with stationary. And other logos of the progress so they'll see what's been done.

It looks fine to my eye. I really like how the accent and the tail of the z play together.

Basically they are both the same stroke. Logo has been created by manipulating Myriad a lot. A LOT. Only V is the same as in original.

Nicely done. I like the sophisticated subtly of the missing parts of the characters, like they are actually being stitched.

I uploaded business card designs for the logo I refined (check attachments on top), but unfortunately the client is more leaning toward logo #c. So you'll see a refinement of it as well. ANd also business card designs...

Cant' win them all :))) Anyway. In it's current version #C looks more like a web 2.0 logo. I'll try to change it in a way it won't look like that anymore. Otherwise I suppose it can also become a very nice logo. It does hide few positives:
- letter V
- lightness as in butterfly
- nice colour combination

It's a start. I wouldn't present it to the client if I hadn't seen any potential in it. But that's life.

Here's just the textual part of the #c logo. I've changed individual letters connect them as good as possible in a uniform colour (embroidery purposes - no excess threads). Opinions are expected even though you don't have any error notes on it. Send me at least a nod. :) I'll post the symbol later as well...

And here goes the stepped up logo in colour and BW version. Shoot me.

I really like your text treatment Robert. The icon looks like 2 laptops back to back to me (especially the color one)...at least that is my first thought when I first glance at it.

Not necessarily. Yet. They may still see the better side of the first logo than this one. You've just given me another good point why this logo may not be appropriate. Laptops are definitely not something they would like to relate their business. Thanks jakes.

Final touch on the logo. You can see that individual letters have been tweaked (rounded) a bit to match the all rounded logo... Stationery awaiting approval. I'll send it later when it's finished.

shame they ever saw the shadow on thse ... I quite like the mark thouhg.

The end result is very similar to what you saw by now. Here you can see business card design (front and back side). A4 stationary sheet looks very similar: top and bottom have a very light gray shade, sides have slightly curved colour gradient bands.

Opinions welcome. ;)

Yes jakes. I am also redoing their website as soon as they embroider their logo. I will use that on the web. Right now it looks like an average 1993 web site. :D In the end it should fall into the same design style.

I'm more worried about content and its updates. I'm definitely not willing to update it once I put it up. Do you have any suggestions how you pass it on to others?

About their website, why don't use one of the many open source Content Management Systems to run the site.
Once you have designed the whole thing you can simply give them 'Editor' access, so they are able to edit text etc. without screwing the whole thing up. My personal favorite is CMSmadesimple - quite straightforward to use and low learning curve for you and the client.

Thanks for the idea Sebastian. I will have to get some info what their hosting company has and choose from that. I'm on .net but I suppose that their hosting service provider only has PHP (I hope). Hopefully they provide free CMS platforms that would make things easy for me. I don't want to do ANY coding. I just want to provide the template and CSS.
