Hi,

what’s wrong with Venus Halbfett? Knowing that would help finding an alternative.
F

nothing wrong with it at all, just want to have a few options i can show my client

Ah, okay!

Here’s a little list of rational-not-so-rational aka grotesque typefaces:

• Maple by Eric Olson
• Parry Grotesque by Artur Schmal
• FF Bau and Amplitude by Christian Schwartz
• Brown Gothic by Nick Shinn
• Bulldog by Adrian Williams
• Monotype Grotesque
• Bureau Grot by Font Bureau
• Dyna Grotesk by František Štorm
• Bell Gothic by Chauncey H. Griffith
• Maquette by Angus R. Shamal
• National by Kris Sowersby
• Griffith Gothic by Tobias Frere-Jones
• Knockout by Hoefler & Frere-Jones

Great list, thanks!

Sorry that I couldn’t include your great Grotext – it has … err … too little quirks? ;-)
Despite the name, it is in a whole different genre, isn’t it? Will appear on another list.

Not just quirks, it's a completely different genre and doesn't belong here.

I think your list hits the mark when it comes to sanserifs of the same the "spirit" as Venus. Especially Monotype Grotesque shows as much of Art Nouveau (I think of proportions more than details), the others a little less.

You might perhaps add Font Bureau's Antenna, Scout, and Vonness. The last two specifically referenced Venus as part of their development, though it's not always directly evident.

Great, thanks!

Excellent list, Florian. A man after my own heart. I would add Folio.
