Czech Please!

Chris Lozos

In an attempt to design a typeface that has broader international use, I am gathering texts from many languages to test the font.
Below is a Czech translation of part of Mozart's opera Don Giovanni. I am using it as an example. My problem is that I can't get some of the accented characters to work. At first I thought it was just my poor understanding of Opentype in preparing my font (which is still very likely) but the same problem exists no matter what font or what foundry I use. For instance the caroned and ringed characters don't compose

The encoding of the text that you posted is very strange. It is not Unicode. I suggest using some properly encoded text for your tests. A popular source of multilingual text is the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that is available online in over 200 languages.

A.

Thanks Adam, I will look for the text. Perhaps it is on the United Nations site.

Thanks Alessandro

Chris, get yourself a Lego set that requires batteries. You'll find a nice, everyday sort of text, provided in 29 languages (in 6 scripts) about what not to do with batteries. It's not too long though.

And specifically for Czech, a great source is the PDFs of back issues of TYPO magazine:
