hint: "Not to distract too much from the other quizzes
going on, I thought this might be fun as a serial pop quiz."

Yes, the hint is Cheshire Dave, the father of the
Type ID Pop Quiz.

bj

Cooper Black!

Correct!

No, not really but
you are VERY CLOSE.

bj

Dang, I was just kidding. Really?

Hint: the person who digitized the type
is NOT the person who drew it.

Combine that clue with the previous clue
and soon you'll be in Type ID Pop Quiz nirvana...

bj

Yves, that's what I first thought too.

BJ, from your clues, I'm wondering if this is from the "For Dummies" type. I don't even recall what that lettering looks like. Didn't Chesh admit once to drawing the full alphabet of this?

-- K.

The clue is Cooper - and the digitization of his handiwork.

The glyph is an uppercase Q.

It's not a script. And it's available at a major type outlet.

bj

Well BJ, that's practically a giveaway now isn't it. This is the cap Q from George Ryan's digitization of Oz Cooper's handlettering, Oz Handicraft.

-- K.

Correct!

"I'll try not to give it up so easy
in the future."

bj

Correct! you rascal!

"I'll try not to give myself away so easy
in the future."

bj

:-)

All right, here's one that I think might pose a good challenge. Give it your best shot.

Type Quiz 06/20/03

Lowercase n from Matthew Carter's Monticello type.

Close . . . it's actually the 'r'.

I figured this would be one of those "either you know it or you don't" IDs. That head serif is pretty distinctive.

Okay, the stage is yours.

-- K.

Alright, what's this?

Type Quiz 3

John --

See, you can't pick something from one of those independent European foundries or Heinrich will have it ID'd before you're even done posting.

Besides, we had Serapion before, early on. In fact, Heinrich posted it.

-- K.

hi kent, exactly the same was it and you it won.

Rat's. I should have paid more attention earlier on. Yes, it is Serapion, and I'll avoid central European foundries in future. Next time it will be Indian foundries and Oriya script!

Take it away Heinrich.

thanks john,

here the next.

I just cross this page two minutes and what about FF info (without any check)?

sorry, this is not FF Info.

or ITC Officina Sans?!

no JFP, also not Officina.
remains however with search in europe.

An S of Hermes by Matthew Butterick?

Hmmm... For a minute I thought it could be Elliott Peter Earls'
Venus Dioxide. It's not... :/

I've been looking at Oz Handicraft this very day when
checking for a type ID. I can't believe it! D'oh!

BJ You're clues are thinly veiled confessions if y'ask me. ;)

Sure as hell looks like it.
