Quincunx did a great close match with Black Slabbath (coolest name ever) but I'm still looking for the true font... as well as waiting on a call back from Texas Monthly Magazine!

OK, Texas Monthly finally got back to me and named the font as Sentinel.
However, they said it was exclusively commissioned and may not be available to the public.
Off to check out that next.
