Shipping outside of North America - Veer...

typetard

Situation: purchase load of fonts, realise you can get free merchandise with Veer based on the merchandise deal at that time... DOH!!! nothing out side of North America..! eh?... charge me the international shipping then... nope. See a merchandised product on Veer... live outside of North America?... sorry no can do. It is not electronics or country restricted software, just shipping costs would make it expensive... then I will pay... nope.. sorry.

When noticing fonts on Veer I like and as I cannot get little incentives 'like some typographically designed merchandise' I either try to find at the actual designers site (as I hope 100% of the money makes it direct to that font designer or foundry), or myfonts.com as they sometimes have little specials or I order more that Veer does not have... so Veer misses out?...

I like incentives, when they are presented.

Another question, what foundry or font supplier gives more of the margin to the font designer, would too prefer to support that.. I tend to go designer first, then foundry... then the myfonts, veer, fontshop etc...

Without being too bold, Font Bros does . . .

Our standard arrangement offers the designer 65% on BOTH the net sales amount AND any negotiated royalties . . . Many distributors drop to a 10% royalty on negotiated OEM licensing . . .

In addition, any sale that comes to the Font Bros by way of a direct link from the foundry garners an additional 5% of the TOTAL sale made so for instance if somebody came from BVFonts.com, MichaelDoret.com, HaroldsFonts.com, or MS-Studio.com to purchase fonts from us, we give that foundry an additional 5% of the total sale EVEN if the customer ended up NOT buying any of their offerings specifically . . .

That translates to a more than 70% royalty on every font sold through these folks and as far as I'm aware, is the best royalty offered through a 3rd party distributor . . .

I blame Bill gates ;-) Maybe you could have the merch forwarded to a "friend" in the USA or Canada and they can pass it on?

I bought an expensive type book from Russia. After that, it turned out that the shipping was as much as the book! Shipping from Germany was not as bad so I wonder what the deal is with Russian shipping costs?

ChrisL

From the US, it's cheap(er) to ship to Moscow or St. Petersburg and UPS or DHL will get it there more reasonably but shipping anywhere else in Russia is a DHL only matter and can cost hundreds of dollars for a basic letter sized envelope even if a value of $0 is declared . . .

I suspect the Fontlab gang can explain this one better than I . . .

Stuart

"...as I’m aware, is the best royalty offered through a 3rd party distributor"

Too bad you guys only distribute retro styles, Stuart!

ChrisL

I wouldn't say only retro styles . . . I would say mostly display styles . . .

If you've got any requests, write to the foundry directly you think would make a good addition or let us know and we'll contact 'em off list . . .

:D

I think the retro assumption comes from the ’50s retro web design. Font Bros is often comes after other vendors in my mind because the web design builds such a strong association to the Mr. Retro and Font Diner products that I forget the fonts aren’t all retro designs. It’s not that I don’t know better, but the whole jukebox theme can visually overwhelming and makes it harder to judge the types on their own merits.

You can always view the specimens on blank pages.

You could go with services like http://www.myus.com/…

Well, you do have to pay the KGB to read it first to make sure it doesn't contain state secrets.

:)

"Well, you do have to pay the KGB to read it first to make sure it doesn’t contain state secrets."

You mean the famous Poluustav chronicles :-)
Actually, it is more likely the American CIA cost for checking out the book publisher to make sure they were not exporting the Kis of death :-)

ChrisL

To provide that "friend", there is this

http://www.myus.com/about/

Haven't tried it myself, though.

Mili, Too bad it does not work also the other direction--from say Russia to the U.S.

ChrisL

Chris, if the postage fee from Russia to Finland is bearable, I can always act as a European pit stop if needed.

Thanks, Mili! That is kind of you. The next time I am getting something from Russia, I will look into it and see if it is a good way to do it.

ChrisL

nice.... http://www.myus.com... thanks Stephan. And thanks Stuart (re: royalties)....

I have purchased from House Industries, got the book all fine no problem, the House Industries book would weigh more than the cushions and a t-shirt. An idea for Veer, throw the cushions, the t-shirts and maybe a hat into the bag and ship it to me. Then I will get some photos done with me wearing the t-shirt and hat, with my House Industry book in my Veer bag, while relaxing on my Veer merchandised cushions.

Really how sweet is it to get stuff like that in the post... we outside the US are being denied the experience of opening a FEDEX or other carrier 'signature required' parcels. Because sometimes the unzipping, un-stuffit, un-compress.... just does NOT cut it.

Well looks like I may go to Amazon, House Industries or even sterling style HTFR (Hard to Find Records) and get myself some 'signature required' parcels so I can have some delight in opening them...

I hope you understand... and in part jest

Stu, I'm bvfonts.com, hee. ; )

-Jess

phew... it was touch and go.. I did gather Bluevinyl is BV.... Also Jess thanks for FontLover.com it is in my bookmarks

what about iron on transfers and adhesive badges for the less fortunate (only with Veers shipping policy) living outside of the North America.

Mili

I never found postage from Finland to a foreign country "cheap". What am I doing wrong?

Giampa

Giampa,

there's a difference between cheap and astronomical, it's all comparative.

Mili,

Astronomical leaps to mind.
