I'm designing a book, my first. I was wondering what would be the best font to use? What are the important considerations when deciding between them? I would appreciate all the advice I can get.

What are the best fonts to use for a book?
It is impossible to answer that question without some information on what the book is about.
But one of the many similar threads might help.... Do a google search with typophile in the search terms.
When in doubt, use Adobe Caslon.
#1: Proportional old style figures.
#2: Small capitals.
Find a type where you like the look of these in a sample setting.

Hehe, the thread I linked to (choosing a font for book design) could almost be stickied or something. To make it the end-all-be-all book-type thread, so we don't have to repeat ourselves. ;)
