Kosovo, independence and letters as things

Antonio Cavedoni

I think this is partly what Gill was referring to with his “letters are things, not pictures of things”.

I’m looking for more background information on that NEWBORN installation, pictures… anything goes. Thanks.

Here's a pic of the whole thing...

...interesting that they went with English rather than their own language - I guess the statement is for export, rather than domestic consumption.

Given that Kosovo relies on the favor of the United States to run circles around the UN, exporting the message that way does make a lot of sense. It might also be a way to thank the US for looking the other way while the former KLA to set up businesses in the US, used the profits buy guns and ammo here and then smuggled them into Kosovo.

Does anybody know who is the author of the sculpture?

Maybe they would have got even more mileage in the US if the giant letters read 'BORN AGAIN'.

Sad but true, John.

Good one, John! :-)

To every thing there is a season, including fundamentalism. Here's to better days.

It's been a long season, kind of like baseball but without the steroids, beer and hotdogs.

I would have gone with "BORN FREE".

Si, you would have gone with "FREE BEER"! :-)

Anyone know what that flag they are waving in that photo is? The red one with the phoenix/bird/crest image?
