kerning generate font ignore

ihi

Hello, I am a graphic design student from Spain. I am working in a experimental type.
I am really desconcerted because when I generated the font the kerning it is ignored.
I make the font with fontlab studio 5.0
The kerning it is generated throug classes. I send you a screenshot. I would be really gratefull with us if somebody could help me.

Thank you
Iván

I belive that you must have at least one more feature for the kern feature to work.

There have been som threads about this some time ago.

Try and make a simple liga feature (or something else) and generate – see how it works.

1. Which font format do you generate the font in?
2. What are your settings in the Kerning generation options?
3. Which applications are you testing your kerning in?

Hi, thank you for your answers.

1.I tried to generate on TrueType (.ttf) and opentype (.otf). The result it is the same.
2. I show you a screenshoot.
3. I tried on Photoshop cs2, illustrator cs2, word 2003,and Indesigncs2. But while I am writting the email I tried test in Freehand Mx and fantastic, the type run perfectly with the kerning! but.... why don’t run in other software?

Thank you,
Iván

CS2 applications have a bug that require at least one substitution feature in an OpenType font in order for the kerning to work. So you could add something like

feature ornm {
sub bullet by bullet;
} ornm;

to the OpenType panel. It doesn’t really matter so much what substitution feature the font has, but of course it would make sense if the feature would be somewhat meaningful and somehow related to your typeface.
