Animal Planet’s new wordmark

blank

whoa

who did this? its sooo “tribal”

The hell? It’s like they tried to create a monospace with the N, I, A, and L, but then....

Actually, I really can’t justify this. Animzal Planet!

Hey at least there are no swooshes, reflections or false 3Difying.

seems rather 1990 to me...

Speaking of 1990... what’s with the feature face not having any printer quotes...so sad this day and age.

It sorta-kinda made me think of Rousseau’s jungle paintings.

Ahhh, I think Gus nailed it.

If you squint you can almost see an elephant.

I see a three-toed sloth in a tree.

Squizgar Squigelf

Who the heck is that? Spongebob?

What was wrong with the old logo? A planet and an animal. Animal Planet. I don’t get it.

(spelling fixed)

and it makes me speak like Skwisgaar Skwigelf.

Love it. Instantly makes me realize how different animals can be.

A.

The New York Times has an explanation here.

[EDIT] There is also a post about the wordmark in one of their blogs... I like the first reader comment, “Bring in da noise, bring in da funk.” :-)

I wonder if this means we’ll get more shirtless shots of Jeff Corwin?

I think they kept it simple so they could do a bunch of special effects with the basis layout. I could see animated images of animals going through the initial A or the horizontal M

Brand New’s review of the logo. Armin doesn’t much like it, and from the video he posted, Dan, it doesn’t seem like they’re immediately going for the animals weaving throughout the letters.
