Typophile

Happy Holidaze Typophile!

Quite a lovely card, Patty! Even if it is a bit flaky :-)

ChrisL

Looks like a FABulous New Year head :)

Verrry nice!
Are you aware of Kaleidotype?

[Only for a second I read ‘Fatty Pet’, but that would be this thread] … ;°)

Nice!

ChrisL

Merry Christmas!

Russ, More bars in more places :-)

ChrisL

great image, patty!

Thanks!

Ike R.I.P.
(last year it was the godfather)

Patty, I second Chuck's comment - your design reminds me of Bembo's Zoo

It would make a nice animation.

Thanks for making my day Patty!
I'll be knockin' the jockeys off the lawn

Thanks for the Zappa quote, James. That album was my introduction to Francesco. :-)

Very cool musical taste Ricardo = ]

Patty, my mum is a calligrapher and illustrator who works with watercolor. I've been working on an illustrated book with her for about---two years. She wants to do all the illustrations and all text calligraphy.

This is a piece Lorna did at christmas time a few years ago:

much love,
j a m e s

And here’s another Frank Zappa-addicted typographer and training type designer.

Lorna does lovely work, James!

Got to find my Suzy Creamcheese
Yeah, yeah, yeah!
Think I'll go and start my car
Yeah, yeah, yeah!
Really dig her; she's so freaky
Yeah, yeah, yeah!
Heard The Heat knows where you are
Yeah, yeah, yeah!

ChrisL

Cheers Chris.

Thrity-six twenty-four hips about thirty
I seen a fine laydee an' I started talkin' dirty
Boy she looked over at me an' she raised her thumb
She said, "Jam down the road ya bum bah-bum-bum"
'Coz I'm a wino man
Don't you know who I am?

I just discovered the liner note for apostrophe(') that says, "All titles written by Frank Zappa except 'Apostrophe' and 'Uncle Remus' :-/

So now that the Holidaze thread is creeping outward into a more generalized word nerd (sry Nick) circus… More song lyrics, but from Bob Pollard this time. Best to all—safe and happy!

Merry Christmas & Best wishes for 2008!

That looks great Simon!

Thanks - it was sort of 'borrowed'/'ripped off' from ChrisL's avatar, though.

Happy Holidays to all Typophilers!

This was part of my this year's Christmas card
Letters used are from Finnish greeting Hauskaa Joulua.

Quite beautifully done, Simon! Not at all a rippoff.

ChrisL

"it was sort of ’borrowed’/’ripped off’ from ChrisL’s avatar..."

Father Chris-mas :)

May your Finnish stars shine brightly, Mili!

ChrisL

"Father Chris-mas :)"

LOL!!! Good things will come in your stocking! Ho, Ho, Ho :-)

ChrisL

Chris, that droplet by your head does have a tendency to look like the tuft of fur at the end of Santa's hat. Heh. (Make that Ho.)

I think Santa has much more hair though :-)

ChrisL

Dezember!

May it shine bright with our joyous spirit!

Yeah ...!

This Card is the best! Using Type to make snowflake is such an easy concept but something I would have never thought of. It would be a good concept to create a greeting card that says Let it Snow within the design or even a christmas tree that is made out of Merry Christmas!
Great Design I absolutely love it!

More primitive than Patty's design, but a neat flash program: http://typeflake.com/

Happy Christmas to all our Christian friends, and to all:

May the New Year bring you the opportunity to create and receive much beauty.

Another variation on the concept from a few years back
http://www.p22.com/free/snow.html

Patty's is quite a bit more elegant than the other snowflakes--Hand fitting the glyphs with lovely negative spaces is a job for a human eye, not random cycles of programming.

ChrisL

Miaow!-Miaow!
Best wishes and kind regards to all typophilers.
I mean it, duderinos.

Pick a song and sing a yellow nectarine
Take a bath I'll drink the water that you leave
If you should die before ask if you can bring a friend
Pick a flower hold your breath and drift away
