Looks good up there!

Tiff - The Featured Face link takes you to the FF Meta Pro Complete Suite which is the most economical way to get all the matching weights of FF Meta and Meta Serif at once. Read more about it in the Meta Serif release announcement.
I keep getting a vague Marlboro association with the new font. Weird. Must be something in the weight distribution as rendered by flash... Anybody else, or is it just me?
Chris -- Here and I thought this thread was going to be about Meta Serif's language support and extensive ogoneks or something.
Nevertheless, a good reason to refresh the cache immediately this time!
Eben -- You're not the only one. I don't know what it says about me, but I also kept getting the same association working on my own Whitman Display Compressed Extra Black. I think maybe it's any heavy, narrow, remotely slabbish type. They just seem to exude tar and nicotine.

I am really enjoying looking at Meta Serif also. Like Patty I find the Bold weight a bit too bold for this use.
Adobe generally does a semi-bold and a bold. Who uses what for what? When is a bold too bold?
A side issue: it is too bad that there is no kerning. For me the r keeps bumping into i,n, etc.
I had a really snotty post prepared but I'll just say this: You whiners are really giving me second thoughts about sponsoring typophile again. Whenever the font changes to something new, that means Typophile can keep operating for a while longer without completely draining the resources of the site hosts, who do everything on their own time.
Do you really have to snivel about which font was selected when it's benefitting everyone for them to appear at all? Have some perspective; this freshens the look of the site periodically, shows off otherwise underexposed designs, and keeps the site going. There really isn't anything to complain about.
Merry Christmas. >:(
Chris, you need to empty your cache.
And Carl, they did replace the bold Beorcana with the lighter weight and it looked great!
Look, this is a tough crowd, which is what keeps it interesting. I don't think comments on the font need to be taken as a criticism of punchcut. I am really glad to see Meta Serif like this, and having it be the sponsored font may make me more likely to buy it.
And for the record I kicked in some money a few months ago, hope you did too.
Unfortunately, it is always going to be too bold, too light, too chunky, too compressed, too something… Some of us like what we see, some of us don't -- if it is too black for one person, that doesn't mean we made a bad design decision. Sure, it might be about legibility and context, but it is also about expression and this is how we have chosen to express this particular face.
If anyone would like to view the other weights of this family, you can do so on the FontFont website, please click on the banner in the right column.
Enjoy it while it lasts, or don't ;) These things will be changing more often than you might be used to.
The Featured Font changed to FF Meta Serif Book today (do a hard refresh if you don't see it). Not bad. Looks best on the huge headlines, such as the homepage and the "Edit and Preview comment" pages. I'm hoping the Bold will get a turn. That's the sweet spot for this setting i think.
