Neue Helvetica Pro Family or Neue Helvetica Family

Sye Robertson

hey i'm looking to buy helvetica, and wasn't sure if the opentype pro family is worth the extra $200 compared to the 'normal' family. does anyone have an opinion?

cheers

The Pro adds about 130 Latin characters to cover all European languages. If "Western" codepage is enough for your needs, I guess you won't need Pro.

hi, thanks, yeah i believe 'western' will be enough. thanks heaps.

Keep in mind that PostScript Type 1 format fonts may not be supported by applications for much longer :(
So if you aren't going to buy the OpenType version of the family, you may want to consider buying the TrueType version instead of PostScript. That would be the same price, right?

I guess this was about price difference between OpenType Std and OpenType Pro.

Oh, then ignore my last comment.

hmmm... i just double checked and it seems that according to this:

http://www.linotype.com/191831/neuehelveticacomplete-valuepack.html#format

OTF pro: $1,079
OTF std: $908
TTF: $681

i'm not sure the opentype versions are viable for me...

the TTF version should work fine... shouldn't it?

cheers

For just over $200 more, I would go with OT. It is clear (to me at least) that this is going to be a standard for a lot longer than TTF.

thanks for the link... one thing seems odd to me, and it may just be due to my ignorance, but it says at font haus that the font supplier is monotype imaging and the supplier is adobe... could this be correct?

Helvetica is a Linotype product distributed also by Adobe and Monotype (now owning Linotype). You can buy it from FontHaus without worry.
