Organic Wine Label

Pattie P

Hi I am working on an Organic Wine label.

I am looking for a font that is clean, understated and contemporary. I want a font that looks soooo good with out screaming look at me. A font that a designer might say “I want to know what that font is. A font the average consumer won’t see anything unique with but they will sense quality. A font for an organic wine consumer who shaves her legs (target market).

Am I asking to much? I thought I’d toss it out there.

an organic wine consumer who shaves her legs

Let's hope she has some band-aids in the medicine cabinet.

I recently did one with Sumner Stone’s Magma. It has a really nice earthy feel, but has all the refinement I could ask for.

Expo Sans maybe

What's the price point? If is a single estate and not on the budget end you might need something on the conservative side.

It's south African a blend probably around $6 per bottle. It will be on a flecked recycled stock. It will have an earthy quality but I don't want a distressed type font.

Nick, these woman are good with a razor.

LOL!

My best face for this is probably Paradigm Pro.

Nick, Excellent font. I purchased the single regular pro version. I did not see the light available that was mentioned in the PDF, perhaps that is only available as part of the family package?

Jupiter boy great script. Not the look I am shooting for for this project but I can see using it on a wine label defiantly.

Any thoughts about these other fonts:

New Prairie
cronospro
Goudy
Goudy Sans
optima
qwestal
warnock pro

Thanks,

Pattie

Thanks Pattie. I got a bit ahead of myself with the PDF--the Light is finished, but I haven't released it yet.
If you'd like to give it a try, email me.

Well I am only going to show them the layout with Paradigm and see if they bite. Another designer had worked on this project before I took over. The only thing that worked on her concept was her type treatment, which was with Optima for the brand name, so they might ask me to incorporate that into the layout. Comparing Optima to your font I see the softness and more organic nature of you font is a better fit for the product. I am hoping they prefer it.

Can you recommend any other fonts that would complement this font?

How about Caflisch Script?
It's casual because it's a script, but it's also very disciplined and sophisticated, and the OpenType alternates make for a very "organic" font!
If you are using Paradigm U&lc large, you could also try it as "all small caps" at text size, with the Caflisch, that would be a nice triad of typographic forms.

Be careful with Optima, you can end up stepping on some toes. Ridge Winery has a very famous typographic label design that uses Optima, so research that one.

Thanks for the tip.

I wonder though, can it infringe copyright if the brand name is not the same? I'd be interested to know about that.

Yes Calflisch is a nice option. I like the all caps as well annnnd the light. I am thinking back label lots of tiny copy.

They like the label so far.

damn! i've just joined a forum where nick shinn posts! who else lurks around here! i'm happy to be had.

Welcome!
But strictly speaking I'm a user not a lurker.
Expect more of this nit-picking...it's what typophiles do best.

Organic is ongoing for me so keep me posted on other good designs to use.

Everyone who sees the label design loves it so when it is OK to share I'll post it.

So where can I get that Paradigm light? : )

Hey, Paradigm would be a good wine name.
