(x) Tim Noble & Sue Webster "Wasted Youth" book cover - H&FJ Knockout {Akira}

kotekan

am after the font used throughout this book. designed by YES london. http://www.yesstudio.co.uk/wastedyouth.htm

i have been told he often creates his own fonts from old letter forms, but was wondering if there is a font i could use as a starting point. have tried identifont and myfonts with no luck.

The horizontal terminals of ’S’ say Helvetica … (the ‘R’ too?)
Then, the ampersand is quite distinctive – and different from the Helveticas I know.

Sorry – Jan, Akira & co have to take over! ;°)

Akzidenz-Grotesk also has horizontal terminals in its Extra Bold Italic weight …

AG Book Bold Condensed is close but not an exact match.

So, it’s up to Akira.

Type ID Board calling Akira - please take over.

could be Knockout

Yes, it’s Knockout No. 90 Ultimate Welterweight.

Knockout No. 70 Full Welterweight, I’d say. The ambersand’s right, too.

Akira, you amaze me again.

Don’t take my No. 70 as an reply. I posted simultaneously.

thank you. can’t find an oblique version, perhaps the agency did it themselves?

Yes, I think they obliqued it manually.

You see? Amazing! ;°)

amazing. thank you.

Ahhh… I love this place… :^)

Brilliant work, guys, great team. ;^)

Yves. You’re being very generous with the credits lately. This should go to Akira only.

Alright. Let’s share the credit, Jan. ;^)

Oh, now I see. Seven minutes. I thought you identified independently from each other, but you narrowed down the weight once Akira identified the typeface. Fair enough. One more or less — it’s not like you’re in need of credits. ;^)
