IJE Logo

mycorp

Hi,

This is a logo for a young company formed by students, who want to apply the theorical concepts they learned in the real world.

They will do Accounting, International Commerce, Marketing, Business Communication, and Administrative Assistance and Translation.

The logo should show the integration of young professionals in the business world. It should have a clean and corporate look too.

This logo is still a draft, but what do you think?
Any comments will be very appreciated.

As a Portuguese (and familiar with the colors of ISCAP :-)) the logo looks nice, but I have the follow comments to do:
-The distances between the line and the letters (left and rigth) looks a little big.
-Not sure if the “iscap...ju...” will be readble in small printed logo. What I mean is when you get a small print of logo the IJE will stand, but the other text won’t. If I were you would meke some other tests.

António

Thanks! (Obrigado!)

In fact it’s just a first draft. The logo still needs some work. Thanks for your suggestions, I’ll give it a try and post a new one soon.

Pretty slick, but the “i” bothers me. The mirroring you’ve applied to it makes it look like an “r” at first glance. It also looks as if it’s leaning to the right slightly - I think this is because the dot needs to be nudged slightly to the left.

I don’t think that the “i” is optically confusing with a “r” at all, but I do agree that the dot needs to be move a bit to the left.

Ok, here’s a new try.
The ’iscap júnior empresa’ is bigger, the dot on the ’i’ more to the left and smaller (as in the original font) and the IJE and the black text closer to the middle line.

Any better?

The current left-adjustment of the three words on the right isn’t working well. First, the “i” in “júnior” is almost colliding with the “p” above. Second, the line space between the bottom two lines is optically larger than between the top two lines, because there’s no ascender in “empresa” and almost no descender in “júnior”.

As a solution, I’d try shifting the words left and right a bit, until the line spaces appear somewhat evenly distributed.

All words are set too tight. Even at this size.

“Iscap júnior empresa” is a “júnior empresa” that belongs to “Iscap”. So instead of shifting the 3 words left and right, I thought of representing this idea, putting them in two lines.
So that the “i” in “júnior” doesn’t collide with the “p” in “iscap”, I tried to put this text to the left of “ije”, aligned right. It’s size is bigger too, so its legibility is increased at small sizes.

What do you think of it this way? Does it look any better?

Well if nothing else at least type is not squashed too tight. It reads much better. I think this last version IS much better than any of the previous ones.

But when I think of acronyms in logos combines with text they normally do appear as acronym on the left and text on the right. But noone says it should be this way.

I like this last version. It works better in smaller sizes than previous designs.

And BTW if nobody saw it so far: in the “ije” we have two “kids” holding their hands and facing eachother. Maybe that could be more emphasized. But the logo works at this moment already.

The reversed “i” represents a young professional (the students working at IJE) providing a service to a mature person (someone from a company), represented by the “j”.

It should symbolise the integration of the students by the existing companies.
How could this be emphasised? Any suggestions?
Thanks for your help.

It’s pretty good, though I’d still like to see a three-line version (with the words on the left, right-aligned).

Here it is.
I still feel the spaces between the words are optically different. And personally I guess I prefer the two-lines version.

What do you you think?

First, the right side of the words are not optically aligned — “r” is significantly more to the right than “p” and “a”. Second, if you think the second line space is optically larger than the first (which I would agree with), then you simply have to reduce the latter — there’s nothing dictating that they has to be numerically equal.

I corrected that.
I also corrected a small difference I noticed between the arms of the “i” and “j” in “ije”, so they look really reflected. They were a little bit different.

I think “i” and “j” are a bit too close. Normally this kerning might be OK, but in this case the “arms” of the two letters are drawing prime attention, and the closeness is in sharp contrast to that between “j” and “e”. I’d recommend as much as doubling the distance between “i” and “j” (measured at the closest point).

Also, I’d hate to sound bitchy, but I feel you’ve overdone it with the “r” — now it looks a bit to far to the left. I’m not quite sure with “p” and “r”, but “a” definitely looks more to the right than “r” to me.

You don’t sound bitchy (at least to me). I appreciate all comments :)
Everyone can learn by making mistakes.
I will post another try soon (not at work right now).

Another try.

By the way, what do you think works the best: the three-line version of “iscap júnior empresa”, or the two-line one?

I definitely like the three-line version better. But I feel that the center of gravity of the three words on the left is too far below the center of gravity of “ije”, which should roughly be on the bottom side of the bar of “e”. Try lifting the three words about 1/3 of their x-height.

I like the 3-line one, but agree with henrypijames’ comment above.

I really like the i & j now - they look like they’re greeting each other warmly. :)

Thank you all for your comments about this logo (specially Henry!)
Here is another one. Everytime I look at this logo, I like it even more :D

I think the logo is pretty good now, except for some fine kerning — “ap” and “mp” are too far, “ca” and “es” are too close, etc.

i’ve followed your progress, i can’t help thinking that you’ve overcompensated too much. firstly you lifted the word empresa up a tiny bit too much, it could come back down a little. also you shifted the dot of the i left a little too much, send it back right a touch because right now the red person is leaning back.

also, follow henry’s suggestion above about the kerning, and i think it’s perfect.

nice work

Hi all,

After some days away, I’m back at work. Thank you for your suggestions.
I’m not that good with kerning, but I will try to do my best. Tomorrow I will give it a new try.

hi,

i’m no expert but my understanding is this... blur your eyes, look at the word iscap, and notice that it looks like isca-p (too much white space between the a and p).

Simple as that. good luck and see what the experts say!

yes i agree, there’s too much space between the “a” and the “p”.
I still like the Logo a lot, but i prefered the version where the “ije” was standing on the left side. Does anyone agree on this?

@carsten: the problem with IJE standing on the left side, is that the “p” from “iscap” is almost colliding with the “i” in “júnior”. That’s why I tried to have the IJE on the right side.

Here goes another try. I corrected the dot of the “i” and a little bit on the “j” too. I tried to adjust the kerning, but I definitly need some help with this :-)
I noticed the space between the “a” and “p”, but other issues are not so clear to me.
What do you think?

i really dig this one.
good work. “a” and “p” look way better now :)
