Gerald R. Ford & Venrock Associates letterheads, similar to Engravers/Sackers Roman

jfbprivate

Can you help me identify the fonts used here? These cover letters are from the U.S., so I believe they’re American fonts. I haven’t been able to find or identify them anywhere yet. Maybe they haven’t been digitalized yet at all. We have two different fonts here, by the way, though pretty similar: the one with “Gerald R. Ford”, the other is from “Venrock Associates”. Thank you so far, and excuse the bad quality.

How old are these? Could be pre-digital engraving that is not available as a font. Agfa Monotype’s Engravers Sets were an attempt to digitize some of these styles. They including the font Patty mentioned.

Engravers 1
Engravers 2

yeah, i tested against light roman. everything was a complete match except the 3 and C which seemed to have a slightly different shapes at the bottom. otherwise, seems to fit.

compare to image 4.

The letter from Venrock is from 1995. The one from Gerald R. Ford isn’t that old either — I’ll try to find out when he was active (government), because the date is missing on this paper.

I have already noticed the Engravers packages from Monotype Imaging, which include the Sackers in package no. 2 — a font often used by the government, White House etc. Unfortunately, these really seem to be the only ones digitalized yet.

By the way, I don’t think it is any of the above mentioned fonts though. Of course, one of them is pretty similar, but still they’re different.

Does anyone else have an idea? Also, I’m pretty sure that the pictured examples include two different fonts. They are not the same either.

Here are more examples. As you see, these aren’t old at all. Though I believe that the one without the date could be a little older. I’m not convinced at all that it’s one of the Engravers from Monotype. It still seems to be another font to me. Especially the middle serif of the “G” is not that wide in the original, the little gap of the “R” is missing in the original, and the middle bar of the “E” is set a little higher in the original. What do you think?

1. Not every typeface is a font. This is a letterhead, and I doubt there is a digital font that matches 100%.
2. Why do you publish all this correspondence? The samples tell us who Mr. Ford writes to, but it doesn’t provide us with information we haven’t already got from 3105_bild_1_1.jpg.

1) Yes, I believe so, too.
2) Because they’re different in quality, and they’re set and printed slightly different. You’ll see if you look carefully enough.

And because I still hope that there is someone who can help. That’s why.

Thanks.

The letters aren’t that old but the plates for the letterhead probably are. He probably got it made at a stationers that has fonts for engraving that may or may not correspond exactly to a digital font.

I assure you that there is no digital font that matches Gerald Ford’s letterhead type.

Okay, many thanks, you guys. That’s what I thought, but it was still worth a try.
