Often, logos are not based on any typeface, but rather lettering by a talented artist.
You might like Mousse Script or Fling.

In case anyone's interested, the LA Magazine logo is a custom job from the always delightful Jim Parkinson.
I was going to say I thought it looked like something from Jim Parkinson. But I checked his site, and didn't see it there.
Thanks for all the prompt and helpful responses, everyone! (I had the same idea about mousse and fling, but they just didn't work for my application.) Not a problem, I've gone another route, but I appreciate the reminder about Jim's work. I'd forgotten just how prolific that guy is! Thanks again.
