calligraphy for left-handed

martina

Hi, I have a question..did anyone try to learn calligraphy using left hand?

It it possible. You just need to (re-)learn writing with the paper in a different angle.

When I was in a calligraphy workshop I simply made all the strokes from the end to the beginning, for example the i from the bottom to the top.

You can also get a special oblique nib which is supposed to ease left-handed calligraphy.

Never tried it myself, though.

I did, but it was 'grade school calligraphy' for what it's worth. Which is basically simple black lettering. The only difference to me was not resting my hand on the page.

I was going to link to the same video as Ralf did. That one shows a very good left-handed calligrapher.

Wow. I'm left-handed and my attempts at calligraphy were always pretty atrocious, even with the oblique nib. Seems like John DeCollibus in that video has an extra attachment to hold the nib at a different angle, as well as the rotated page. Oh, and ability, too. LOL.

Learn Arabic and show up all of us right-handed folk? (I wonder though, are Arabic/Hebrew-script users majority left-handed?)
