*** IMPORTANT NOTICE -- Moderator recharging solar batteries ***

Bald Condensed

I know I know, last time I cheated, but this time the computer’s NOT coming with us. Sabine, the kids and I are off to the Côte d’Azur. I’ll be gone all week, starting from tomorrow Saturday, August 18 till Sunday, August 26th.

As usual, don’t mind the mess during my absence, and in the event of an emergency (spam, abuse, unidentified typeface) please contact the Stewfmeister or one of the other moderators.

Now that I mention it — does everybody know who all the moderators are? Is there a need for a list or sumptin’? Maybe something to pick up when I’m back.

Yes Yves I remember your fake vacation last time :-) Hotels must cost a fortune now! Have lots of fun, wear lots of sunscreen, and most of all- enjoy the family!!!

Mikey :-)

PS... You are allowed though to look at and enjoy typographically relevant landmarks and signage.

Have fun.

If you take pictures of found type, please share them. Good luck!

> Hotels must cost a fortune now!

We’re very fortunate to be able to stay at my grandmother’s apartment, so the main cost is the flight and the car rental (which still is a lot :^/).

Take pictures of found type??? That’s no vacation…

I always take pictures of interesting type when on vacation (side effects of following Typophile). Just waiting for the last film to be developed, then I should scan some of them. There’s the one street sign with a pointing hand, and..

Anyway, have a lovely holiday, Yves!

I thought with all the low cost carriers in Europe it would be cheap. Ryanair, Easyjet etcetera.

For next time use these fabulous website:

Now that you mention it — I don’t believe I know who all the mods are, really. :)

Are we even sure that the moderators know who they are? ;-)

There’s moderators? ;-)

I’d love to know who the moderators are - not sure I do.

Also for when you get back, I am getting so tired of “Anyone know this one?” thread titles. It would be great to float the FAQ thread at the top and REALLY SCREAM the headline.

Moderators in no particular order: Paul Hunt, Dan Reynolds, Eben Sorkin, Yves Peters, Tiffany Wardle de Sousa, and Stephen Coles.

This is good to mention, Tiff — in another thread, whose title I don’t wish to remember ;-), Font Player was convinced that Hrant was a moderator (possibly due to his high number of posts per week). :-)

hahaha... I thought Hrant was a moderator too :-)

Take pictures of found type??? That’s no vacation...

Heh-heh. In England they call that a busman’s holiday. Maybe WE could call it a Typophile’s Holiday. ;-)

At any rate, enjoy the time off, Troubleman!

Um, geez, I got back last night and have several pictures of type — I’ve decided to scout around for Benguiat in the field. :-(

Must. Break. Type. Habit.

Font Player was convinced that Hrant was a moderator

That must have been in the very beginning, because it quickly became clear he was too strongly opinionated to be a moderator. Heck, when I was stirring the pot he even sided with me a few times when no one else did.
; )

I do miss the ol’ bugger.

Linda! Yer back! Hi! :-)

Must. Check. Flickr. Photos.

Must. Check. Flickr. Photos.

Must. Upload. Flickr. Photos. ;-)

(I’m utterly swamped at the moment, but I’ll get ’em up over the weekend. Geocoded even!)

Linda - if you want Beguiat (though God knows why you would), then Egypt is the place to go, it’s absolutely everywhere. Along with Arrus.

Edit: Sorry Linda, I just saw your post on the “What one typeface would you rather didn’t exist” I’m with you there. Ed comes in for a lot of stick for Souvenir and Benguiat, but they were of their time, and he has done a lot of other brilliant stuff.

Nick Cooke

Oh, absolutely Nick! And despite Benguiat’s utterly horrific inappropriate/overuse here (amazing, Egypt, too, eh?), I have a certain fondness for the man and his work in general.

Certainly, the font does have its place: I’ve got a series of historical novels that uses it as the cover font, and I haven’t quit rereading them because of it.... ;-)

Back.

Gimme some time to trawl thru the backlog of mess. But first things first — the very last episode of the very last season of The Sopranos.

Laterz! :^)
