Next Calgary meeting

Invitation is posted a little earlier this month because there's homework to be done. A large part of the discussion on the 15th will be about choosing a proper name. Show up at the meeting with your choices and be prepared for debate!

This is the most awesome thing, and I wish you the best of luck! If I didn't live so far away, I'd come, too. As it so happens, the Offenbach (near Frankfurt, Germany) Typostammtisch meets tonight. We've successfully pulled this off every month for over three years now, and even tangentially inspired a similar sort of event in Berlin. Good luck! This sort of thing should happen more often…

Dan, thanks for the words of encouragement! I hope we'll have the longevity of Typostammtisch.

With a love for type, all things are possible.

A love of beer helps too.... ;-)

(Ah, Kenny -- the pub's in NW, not NE. Not that they couldn't use a pub in that 'hood, but it would be too far for me to walk!)

We had five attendees at our last soirée, so we're gaining ground.

Besotted or not, I promise to try and make an appearance this time around. The timing seems appropriate for a post-TypeCon debrief, if nothing else. I’ll also see if I can convince a few additional Veer-types to show up.

Grant, hope you can make it. You're always welcome. And a timely, first-hand report on TypeCon would be appreciated.

At this rate, we're going to need a second table.... ;-)

Some day I will make it down to Calgary. If only i had been working at Veer. *sigh*

(bump)

Just a reminder -- this Wednesday night....

goody, goody, goody. Type meeting today. I can hardly wait!!! Gonna wear my Helvetica t-shirt.

So, how did it go?

Did Mark behave himself?

I am truly sorry that I was not able to make an appearance. It was simply another one of those weeks.

So, how did it go?

Well, we have a logo, but not a name quite yet. :-)

There was some good discussion revolving around our little show-and-tell, including the TypeCon program. Perhaps our recording secretary would like to add pertinent details?

Did Mark behave himself?

He was a perfect gentleman and is welcome back anytime -- it was good to see him again. :-)

Sorry I couldn't make it guys - movie stuff. Hope all went well.

- Lex

what a lot of fun

besotted!

Wish I could join you! I hope to do a quick drop by Calgary in late January, though.

Late January in Calgary? You're a braver man than I, Mr. P.

A belated report on our last meeting:

Everything went swimmingly. Mark from Veer attended and offered great advice on moving our club forward, participated in the Name Debate, reported on TypeCon and gave insights into Veer's workings. Mark, thanks for attending. And thankyou for your generosity! Completely uncalled for but still much appreciated. We bought a round to toast your health!!

Mark left a bag of Veer-Swag, including Activity Books and buttons, which will be available to attendees of our September meeting.

Dave B. reported that he was moved to leave the lurker pool and become a member of Typophile. I don't think he's posted anything yet, but it's nice to have another Calgary face on Typophile. (If I can get on my soapbox for a bit...this is exactly how I see a type club working. It's a chance for people with an interest in type to meet, share resources and foster enthusiasm. Oh, yeah, and there's beer.) Congratulations, Dave, and welcome to Typophile!

The great Name Debate is still ongoing. We've short-listed our favourites and we'll decide on one of those in September. Dave apparently wasn't satisfied with merely submitting names...he showed up with logos! So, in typical type-geek fashion, we've picked a logo already even though we haven't settled on a name. How does that work? (Hopefully Dave will post the logo for critique on this forum.)

Lex was unable to attend, and we want his input on the Name Debate. So, Lex, you've got a month to come up with something better than what we've short-listed!

On the agenda for the September meeting: Mike's illustrated letters, discussion of a membership push at the local Art+Design College, the possibility of getting a local gallery to host a Type Show. And Lex's report on how the movie is going ;-)

Thomas, it would be great if you could attend! We meet on the third Wednesday of the month (which translates to January 16th).

As Don mentioned, January is a good month for drinking beer with type-minded folk. Cause there ain't nothin' else to do.

And if you're not going to make it for the regular meeting, we could probably be persuaded to hold a special one, if for no other reason than it's a good idea to sit, schmooze, and consume beer. :-)
