but what if i wanted to mimick this font as closely as possible in creating a different logo? so far the closest font i can find is plantin bold. any other suggestions? thanks!

Minion Bold as a possible starting point? Would need quite a bit of 'feminisation' though.

The look may differ when written white on black or black on white. Here is the Chloé logo black on white:

Yeah that is strange, because I replied to your Minion bold earlier, and now that is gone....

This has been happening since the major upgrade a while ago. The powers that be are working to correct that, but everyone's at TypeCon Seattle right now, so let's refrain from editing for now. ;^)
