Match for Triplex Italic

Héctor Muñoz Huerta0 votes

I'm testing Triplex Italic on a book about indigenous recipes but I dislike Triplex regular, it's so sloppy and goofy, specially on headlines.

So please suggest some regular (not italic) sans serif companions.

Triplex Italic and it's match will be runing side by side so they must have a similar color and character.

What would you suggest?

Héctor

light or bold?

I don't know how well it will work, but a natural thing to check out would be another by John Downer, SamSans. As you know the regular of Triplex is not by Downer, but Licko.

Totally agree on the Triplex uprights. Xavier Dupré saw the same faults when he was inspired to create FF Megano. The two families should play quite nicely together.

Stephen has it exactly right.

Prenton might work, but I'm not sure about the weights.

Nice idea, James. Prenton is one of those really nice undiscovered families.

I wouldn't say Triplex is goofy, it just has more character than most of the straight-sided sans that we have now become so accustomed.

Maybe I wasn't using the right words, but the roman is not as good as the italic, and is very ugly at big sizes.

Nice recomendations. I'll check on them now.

Hey I found out that Font Bureau's Zhinga is a very good serif match for Triplex.

Héctor

Héctor, I was just trying to even the playing field a bit. ;^)

I'd love to see a sample of this combination.

The answer of course is skewed Comic Sans!

LOL... skewed Comic Sans rules!

Tyf, I have no copy of Zhinga, but look at the Font Bureau's webiste and make the comparison, they match really good.

Great idea with Zingha, Héctor. I've added a sample to my comparison post above.

Relato Sans, which has an italic that is similarly bony?

I just wanted to inform that we decided to keep Triplex Roman. I'll try to do a decent job with it but maybe I'll go for an alternative on headlines.

Thanks all for the help.
