That’s not a font – it’s stone carving

What exactly do you like about this kind of lettering? Maybe we can come up with something similar that you might like.

DUH!!! Brilliant observation, Sherlock.

It is also a font. Their letterhead and logo, etc, all have this font
used.

This feels Goudy-esque to me. It’s similar to ITC Berkeley or Font Bureau’s Californian.

Thanks, marcox. I actually have the Californian. Wow, didn’t see the silmilarities.

Have a good weeked.

You wouldn’t happen to know a free alternative to URW Agenda Ex Bold?

URW Agenda seems inspired, to put it kindly, by Clearface Gothic (itself available from several foundries).

Seems unlikely that there’ll be a free alternative.

What Nick meant is that often letters carved in stone — and specifically this example — are not based on fonts that are available digitally. This is custom lettering, not type.

I beg to differ, it may be a modified version of the fonts
identified but it was still a font before being LASER CARVED into
the stone. I have tocuhed the sign, myself, and it was not hand
carved, hence it had to be done by a computer, and thus digital fonts HAD to be used.

This is closed because I used Californian as it was extremely close, so, close that you can’t tell unless it’s blown up so large...
I redid the logo in Illustrator and it looks great.
