Two editions of Photoshop CS3:

They’re really smart!

unknown

Looks like they’re becoming more and more like Microsoft. I suppose 2 isn’t bad, but wait until they start offering 5 versions of each product…

As for 3D in photoshop…odd.

Adobe Photoshop Creative Suite 3
Adobe Photoshop Creative Suite 3 Extended

A good start but they still have a ways to go.

unknown

The 3D stuff makes sense; I’m sure a lot of companies would rather Adobe just build it in than keep switching between Photoshop and other apps to paint on a model. But it also makes a lot of sense to not pass on the cost to everybody.

That said, Photoshop coming in flavors like this isn’t new—Elements has been around for a while now.

“The 3D stuff makes sense”

Sounds like feature bloat. But, given the age of Photoshop, all they can really add is feature bloat anyways.

unknown

Adobe Photoshop Creative Suite 3 EXTENDED… what a horrible descriptive name.

Maybe CS3 - Technical or CS3 - 3D

Granted those aren’t better, but Extended!?

unknown

Sounds like feature bloat.

I don’t see it as bloat in this case, because it’s a pretty useful feature for people who do 3D work.

It would be nice if Adobe would pare Photoshop down some. Maybe have an install option along the lines of “skip all those crappy filters that they tell you to never use on the first day of Photoshop 101.“

unknown

It is about time Adobe made their software more 3D capable, though this news hardly goes far enough. Macromedia had a bunch of 3D technologies in their portfolio that they just let stagnate after they acquired Flash. Anyone think there is a chance Adobe might revive them any time soon? Just bundling an updated Extreme 3D in the CS package would instantly make Adobe a player in 3D graphics. Granted, it has a long way to go to bring it up to par with other modern 3D apps, and Adobe might not want to invest in that sort of development,

Why not add 3D rendering to MS Word then? ;o)

I can see 3D rendering folks appreciating it, but I have to assume 3D rendering folks use 3D rendering apps for their 3D rendering. But I’ve been known to assume wrong. ;o)

“Just bundling an updated Extreme 3D in the CS package would instantly make Adobe a player in 3D graphics.”

Not much of one, though. Extreme 3D was never really top of the class and at this point, the code base must be fairly full of cobwebs.

Well all this talk about Photoshop CS3 is great…but when are they going to start talking about Illustrator. I mean aren’t 3D animated graphics vector and polygon based?

unknown

Not only 3D animated graphics, but plain old packaging design could benefit from it. Most of the templates used for package design come as .EPS vector format, but you have to design a 3D box on a 2D plane. Being able to interactively design something where the text automatically wraps around the box would be awesome.

CS3 & CS3D would have been good : )

> Looks like they’re becoming more and more like Microsoft

what’s wrong with that? :^)

we need more people — good & smart — like Bill Gates!

we need more people — good & smart — like Bill Gates!

I’d settle for someone as good and smart as Bill Gates, but better at hiring replacements. Bill I love, Fester Ballmer, not so much.

unknown

…but when are they going to start talking about Illustrator.

Now you’re talking. Simple 3-d functionality in Illustrator could be huge!

unknown

“we need more people — good & smart — like Bill Gates!”

If good and smart means we need a group of 3 microsoft licensing representatives to come in for an hour meeting to explain the product and licensing differences between the 7 or so variations of Microsoft Office Sharepoint and whether we need Sharepoint Designer, Expression, or Visual studio, and, if the latter, which editions of that, then you and I have a VERY different definition of ‘good and smart’.

“Simple 3-d functionality in Illustrator could be huge!”

Remember Adobe Dimensions?

unknown

Why use the term extended? Because the price for that version is going to be extended … big time.

Just my guess.
