{ Wanted : Really nice logos with a 'M' as a sign }

I have a new client that needs a logo with a 'M' as the logo sign. He wants the M to later stand alone, or be used in combination with different keywords that describe his company. His business is as an event company on a very high level so the logo needs to be elegant and have class.
I have made these rough sketches for him and he likes it a lot. The only problem he has with the logo is that the M is not legible enough. I didn't want to use a font, tweak the M and make a logo out of it. So I hand lettered it to give it that exclusive touch.

I'd like to make some more complete logos for him, but I'm looking for some inspiration. Do you know of a logo that has a really really nice M as a sign? Some keywords that the logo should match up to are: serious, professional, masculine, elegant and powerfull.

Would be nice to see what you come up with...

Hmm, I wouldn't call them any of those names.

Maybe try juvenile, simplistic, and lowest-common-denominator.

(Which, of course, means "effective" in this day and age....)

I sure like the U. of Michigan's M

better than the awkwardly splayed and overseriffed one that the U. of Minnesota uses.

I should suggest having a look at how Guimard dealt with the M of Métropolitain: the entrances to the Paris metro he designed are shaped as an M.

The Guimard escutcheons also bear an M

(if you saw the entrance from a bird's view, you'd see it is also shaped as an M!)

Later letterings (white on red) by Dervaux may be less inspiring to some but I think they are great

Sorry for the late reply. I've been out for a few days. Work is piling up here and I'm drowning.

That's a stunning list of M's!!

D. I have been thinking about the Blake & Mortimer yellow M too. It's absolutely fantastic, but I can't copy it. Professional ethic... you know?
The logos 'Minisota Historical Society' and 'Mertz' is what I'm looking for. They are pretty unique and get burned in your mind.
