Can anyone tell me what font this is, that’s being used in the Cyworld logo?

I’m seeing a resurgence with this typeface everywhere i go. I swear. At least i think that’s the one. Makes me think early to mid 90s for some reason.

Perhaps your flashback to the ’90s is caused by FF Blur which is close, but not it. Nor is Frankfurter or VAG.

Perhaps you’re thinking of FF Blur, which was indeed all the rage in the last decade of the last century? Unfortunately, that’s not what this type is.

Its a modded version of VAG... Looks the median filter was applied to it in photoshop- my guess of course. There are a few other adjustments too.

You find the very popular VAG here. VAG= Volkwagen of Germany. Cute huh?

Mike Diaz :-)

marc. we are twins.

Missed my link, Mike?

Thank you guys for all the feedback! I knew it wasn’t VAG. I considered in the back of my head, that it could’ve been VAG with a modified filter applied to it in photoshop but wrote it off. I’d seen the font in too many other places to assume that it was a technique applied over and over again.

Actually it’s probably either FF Blur medium or bold. That looks about right. Couldn’t possibly be anything else right?

Yes I did... I started typing a reply to this post before there already was one and when I posted all the smart kids beat me to it and there was a bunch of stuff and .... :-)

It’s scary, isn’t it Stephen? Right down to the similar sentence construction.

I’m outta here, this is too weird!

No it’s not. I believe there are a couple of fonts — also non-released stuff from students — from the grunge boom that are similar, and it could be one of them.

I thought it might be North Bergen, but no.

Another close-but-no-cigar option: Autostyler, available free upon request from the fine folk at Autodidakt:

It looks like 구름 M (Gureum, meaning “cloud”, and M standing for medium weight) offered by the Korean font outfit 윤디자인 (YoonDesign). In fact, you can see the Cyworld logo on the front page for their website. I can’t find any further information on the design, though.

Korean fonts include latin alphabet glyphs by default in addition to the hangul (Korean alphabet). It is pretty common, I imagine, for Korean designers to use the latin alphabet component of their Korean fonts for latin-alphabet logos.

Another option is the fairly new Chocolat, which appears to be a blurred Futura.

As for the Cyworld logo itself, though, I think it’s pretty much settled that the font used is Gureum M. YoonDesign wouldn’t display it as a prominent example of one of their fonts in use on the front page of their website if that wasn’t the case.
