Typography Books with their own websites

Ricardo Cordoba

It seems that typography books lately come with the added bonus of a companion website. I only knew of two so far...

Thinking with Type (by Ellen Lupton)

Designing with Type (by James Craig, William Bevington, and Irene Korol Scala; now in its 5th edition)

...but now I just saw a link on Design Observer for the 4th edition of the book

Typographic Design: Form and Communication (by Rob Carter, Ben Day, and Philip B. Meggs).

It’s nice to have these resources online, no?

I know I’ve seen a website for some of Daniel Will-Harris’s stuff as well.

Thanks, Linda. I had stumbled upon his website a while back; what I didn’t know was that this was the same author of TypeStyle: How to Choose & Use Type on a Personal Computer.

I hate to get nitpicky, but his website doesn’t seem to be a companion to that book, whereas the ones listed above are meant as an online complement, if you will, to each book.

Pick nits all you want: I won’t disagree.

I’ll admit to not having spent much time looking at the site (I do have the book), and what struck me about both of them now is that they’re kind of, um, dated: I know I look at type differently now that I did 15-20 years ago (the book came out in 1990), but the site still seems stuck in that era.

Just one woman’s opinion.... ;-)
