Have you tried just making an OTF, instead of a TT-flavoured OTF?

Miguel, Its the TrueType/OpenType TT (.ttf) fomat that I'm problems with on the PC

After a bit more investigating it looks like it's only in the CS 2 apps. (Indesign, Illustrator). Photoshop 7 for the PC, the fonts work fine. I only have demo versions of CS 2 cos I dont really use PC, could the fact that they are demo versions be the probelm ?

Likely errors in the naming of the fonts. Have you tried running them through the Microsoft Font Validator?

I will try it through Microsoft Font Validatot, but the font works fine in other Windows apps. like Word, it just the demo versions of Adobe CS 2.

Adobe apps need/use different naming then Word for example, it's quite tricky.
There have been a couple of good threads on naming opentype families on the forums, if you search for 'Font Family Naming in Fontlab', you should find what you need. For example this thread, with replies from Adam Twardoch, who works at Fontlab Ltd. :) Those are mostly about OTF-naming. I'm not sure if it's different for OT-TT's. But maybe it's of any use.

Thanks for all your replys but I'm sure this is to do with the fact I was using a demo version of CS 2 to test the fonts. I tested the fonts on a friends PC with a full version of Adobe CS 2 and there were no problems at all.
I don't know if anyone can confirm this.

confirm what? that you tested the fonts on a friends PC... :^)

Sorry I mean fonts working on full versions of applications but not on demo versions.

I seem to be going around in circles now - the opentype TTF fonts now work on the PC in Adobe aplications but the opentype OTF dont work on the PC in Adobe applications, but the OTF fonts work in Windows applications like Word.

To summarize:

OpenType TTF and OpenType OTF work on all applications on Mac.
OpenType TTF works on all applications on PC
OpenType OTF Doesn't work on Adobe applications on PC, but works on Windows applications

I think it's time to give up.

Final update:

If I place the openType OTF font in the fonts folder of the Indesign directory it works, but in the fonts folder of the control panel irt doesn't - what could this mean ?

Well, I make OTF fonts in Fontlab all the time, and can use them in Adobe apps on PC without any problems. So it should work.
But the Windows font-directory is quite.. odd. Sometimes it helps to delete the font, and install it again. And also make sure the Adobe apps are not running while installing the fonts. Normally that shouldn't matter, but unfortunately it does. For me, anyway. :)
