Suitable alternatives to Classic Roman Caps?

maffp

Hi!

I’m trying to make a logo for this clay pigeon shooting club. I like the style of this font but I don’t like the cross behind each character. And I’m not a big fan of the short top horizontal on the ’E’

I will be keeping a fairly wide kerning of the font I think.

Obviously, the logo will be made more detailed and unique but I wanted to see if I could get any recommendation for fonts before continuing.

Many thanks.

I’d go for something with proper small capitals… faking it is never pretty. It seems to be a Trajan style you’re after. Trajan Pro seems to have small caps. You might also like Minerva Display Antiqua by Gabor Kothay (which doesn’t seem to have small caps unfortunately).

For this kind of feel, i quite like Augustea (not Berthold’s Augustea, but the old Nebiolo typeface), but all the digital versions seem to be of the open version. Of course removing the open parts would be simple enough in illustrator...

As well as Trajan, check out Garda.
