Looking for a special dingbat

ChelseaGirl

I'm looking for a symbol that would indicate "extra weight," like a scale. But it needs to be a font and not a graphic. I have searched the Web extensively and haven't found anything. Does anyone know of such a thing? Someone on another site told me to look at the Signs Two font, but I couldn't see anything that fit that description. It seems crazy that with all these dingbats out there, a scale is hard to find (I did find the scales of justice, but that's not what I need.) Any help would be appreciated.

If you find a vector graphic you like you can have it made into font form for a small fee.

Perhaps something in a horoscope font? Libra?

I also tried Poppi at Emigre.com but they seem to have everything but a scale.

Regina, did you consider using elephants (or rather, images of them) for this task? I always found the predecessor to ABZ – More Alphabets and Other Signs which was called 101 Alphabets and Other Signs very useful. But this is a symbolic, not typographic train of thought; further research for signs & symbols here.

Alternatively you could set +lbs or +kg (depending where you are) in any font and have done with it.

I thought this wasn't a dating site… :)

Thanks for your ideas; I will look into all of them.

Is this the kind of thing you need? If you are using Quark (not sure about InDesign) you can draw up something as an eps and, using an embedded picture box, insert in your text.

Yup, he was the Heavy in that show :-)

LOL!! Where's my grand piano when I need it?

Still in transit with Acme Shipping Inc., of course!

(beep, beep)

What an amazing coincidence. Ive got a dingbat font which, funnily enough, only has these 3 glyphs...

The font is Windows TrueType. Let me know if it's of any use to you ChelseaGirl.

From the thread title, I thought you were inquiring as to my whereabouts.

No Bruce, if that were the issue, they would first have looked in the Whitehouse :-)

Finally...a scale! Thanks, Tim that's what I was looking for.
