Helvetica documentary clips now online

gary hustwit

Greetings all, just wanted to let you know that we've uploaded a few Quicktime video clips from Helvetica on the website:

www.helveticafilm.com/clips.html

It's tough to get the feel of the full documentary in a few minutes, but hopefully these will give you a taste. We've put up a snippet of our interview with Wim Crouwel, a nice piece of footage from the streets of Berlin that segues into part of Erik Spiekermann's profile, a few minutes with Experimental Jetset, and a clip featuring Neville Brody and Rick Poynor. Hope you enjoy them.

The full list of participants in the film now includes Matthew Carter, Massimo Vignelli, Wim Crouwel, Hermann Zapf, Erik Spiekermann, Neville Brody, Stefan Sagmeister, Michael Bierut, David Carson, Paula Scher, Jonathan Hoefler, Tobias Frere-Jones, Experimental Jetset, Michael C. Place, Norm, Pierre Miedinger, Alfred Hoffmann, Mike Parker, Bruno Steinert, Otmar Hoefer, Rick Poynor, Lars Müller, and more.

We'll have a few more clips, a proper trailer, and news on our 2007 world premiere and screening dates soon.

Cheers,

-Gary

Wow! Nobody has anything to say about the clips? I am really looking foreward to the film. Getting to hear from Wim Crouwel was fantastic! Thanks for the clips Gary!

Not fond of clips or trailers. Knowing who has participated is enough. I’m waiting for the full thing to come to Dublin… then I’ll have something to say about it.

Looking forward to it.

;^)

It's times like these when I really feel like a type nerd. Excellent job- really looking forward to attending a screening!

thanks folks! i can't wait to see a screening either. it's been over a year of filming... cannot... look at helvetica... much longer...

cheers,

-gary

Aha! But you have little choice now. As you must realize all too well. ;-)

Looks good Gary, love the clips, will be great to watch the whole movie. Interesting to hear about how the modernists used it, thought of the meaning of the typeface (which has obviously now changed).
I guess it will be able to be ordered online? (for the out of towners)

I feel like a total nerd for being so excited that someone is making a movie about Helvetica. Hopefully it will appear at the DC film festival next year, or at least get some showings at the National Gallery or Art and/or The Corcoran.

Maybe we will be able to buy it to watch on our portable media players... 8-). How cool would that be?

Ah, nice one. Looking forward to it a lot!

Keep it up.

As someone who hasn't used the video features of his iPod since getting stranded at an Italian hotel that only got two TV stations in June, not very. But it's better than not seeing it at all, I guess.

I can't wait to see this! One comma up, for the trailers!

Would it be allowed (or possible) to show this film at uni when it comes out?
We have this huge screen in one of our buildings and it would be great to show this to all 3 years of the graphic design departement.

Anyway, can't wait to watch the full film!!!

dav2.

That's actually not even a bad idea. My classmates could use some typographic education... they hardly know anything about the history of type, for graphic design students...

But of course, if it's not allowed. :)

Watching the tiny short clips made me want to scream, so I don't think I'd last more than 30 seconds in a movie theatre.

when IS it coming to india???!
