Grid for cd cover.

garden0 votes

Hi I have just started doing a cd cover for rock demo-band.

So i could use a little help, like examples of good grids and layouts...
I did golden section on the cd cover but I am not sure is it correct.

So I should start working on intersection of lines or so?
Please help. Thanks.

p.s it is 12 cm x 12 cm (standard).

Grids might be redundant for cd covers, a good rule is to have the band and album name at the top to allow for reading in racks, apart from that let fly. Or do you mean for track listing and other information?

I would like to recreate "good typography" - mainly for track listing and other info AND also i would like to create artistic typography on front cover mixed with very good photo combined with illustration...

something like, and in first image ( i see use of golden section and rule of thirds...

So do you have any other examples, suggestions?

btw, i am curious about this grid, is this golden section (back cover)?

That Bobby Mcferrin cover certainly looks like a golden section grid in the background although the elements of type don't seem to bear much relation to the grid. From the samples you posted I thought you might enjoy this gallery of 4AD covers. My opinion is that the golden section doesn't fit in with the format of a cd cover too well and that you are probably best developing your own grid and creating a hierarchy for the information.
