(x) Orange plc logo and corporate face - Trade Gothic (custom version), Neue Helvetica {Lex, Erik S}

Tom Myers

Hello, first post!

i was wondering if anyone could tell me the type used for orange’s idents?

http://www.orange.com/images/common/orange.gif, also, http://www.orange.co.uk/

i’d primarily like to know the typeface used in the logotype, but also what the other collateral faces that are used, like the light title text, for example....

cheers,

Tom

They seem to use Helvetica for their titles. The logo is very small, but could possibly be Helvetica as well.

Tom,
Welcome to Typophile posting. I wish you had picked something that was big enough to be identifiable. At the only size I can see on their site, it seems like we could pick almost any sans serif, and not know the difference. Does the ’a’ have any tail? Is the ’e’ crossbar angled? I really can’t tell even these basic things at screen resolution.

I was concentrating on Orange in the square, but the other type on the page you linked seemed like what I would call ’generic sans’ (Helvetica/Arial).

This looks to be Akzidenz Grotesk.

Not AG, but a customized version of Trade Gothic (with a single-storey g), by WolffOlins, 1994.

Akzidenz Grotesk is close, but the detail differences are in the tail of the e, and the tail of the a, for examples.

it’s definately not Helvetica, there’s too many angles...

EDIT: cheers

Originally, the headlines used to be Neue Helvetica 25 (thin), but recently that got a bit corrupted.
