HELP PLEASE! Neue or New

umlautthoni

Can anyone tell me how this is supposed to be pronounced:

Helvetica NEUE

I've heard:

new and new-ay

I'm trying to settle a discussion in our studio.

Noy-e. E as in elephant.

Grot, thank you very much for responding, but would the noy be pronounced like joy?

Yes. But with an N. :^)

So “noye”. No pause between the u and the e.

this is direct link to a .wav which shows how to pronounce neue in german (its "Neue Welt", new world, so forget about the second word).

its a computer voice as you'll see, but its pretty accurate. "noy-a" sounds pretty wrong to me.

“noy-a” sounds pretty wrong to me.

I don’t know. It bends a bit in that direction, when you say it fast. If the faq read “noye”, all these english speakers would say “noï”.
