stroke-only, no fill fonts?

Willem Mulder0 votes

Hi All,

I'm looking for any fonts that are stroke-only.... i.e they have no fill, and are made of line only.

It's for a video project where i want to 'write' the text on in neon light. I can get a filter to do this in AfterEffects but need type that's more-or-less continuous (handwriting/script) and is 'stroke-only'.

any ideas?

thanx in advance.

Digital Kauno?

One of my personal favourites, but it doen't have much other than letters.

I made a line-font a while back that does have a lot of extra symbols & accents, but it's not very legible though.

brilliant thanx.
is candyland ready for release/sale? i'd love some of those symbols too...?

I'll hold out some hope for a slanted font. :)

thanx much

erm, is it just me being an idiot...?

Is there a way in Illustrator to 'inset' a fill to produce a centre-line path?

Digital Kauno is made of filled shapes not just a stroke :(

VV

No, at the moment Candyland is trapped in my laptop with a dead battery & dito power cord.
I've ordered a new power cord, but it might take a while before it gets here.
I didn't have any intentions of putting it up for sale, but I'll consider it ;-)
A slanted version is still too advanced for me though.

Maybe Mama or Neon from Fenotype?

As fot the Illustrator question, you can make a centre stroke with the blend tool, but this could give some weird results for some shapes.

digital kauno is the best... but

I can seem to get the center-line using blend...(?)

You might have to adjust a few lines before you can use it. If you want to make center lines from a font, you'll have to copy the letters, erase everything but one outer stroke, paste it, erase everything but the other outer stroke (this is where you might have to do some adjusting like linking to separate parts from one stroke to make sure you get the 2 outer strokes) & thenuse the blend tool (set it to one step).
The copy/paste thing is needed because you can't use the blend tool on a single object & even if you cut a path, Illustrator will still see it as one object.

i see, very tricky ;-)

i don't think it's going to be the best method with this typeface.

does anyone know of a stroke-only typeface or an easier method to create a center-line from a type object?

many many thanx

I'm not exactly sure what you're looking for, but what about Neon?
http://simplythebest.net/fonts/fonts/neon.html or Odense Neon
http://www.paratype.com/fstore/fonts/Odense.htm or Neon Stream from Veer http://www.veer.com/products/typedetail.aspx?image=FBT0100025

found another way:

use freehand or fireworks to 'Inset path' such that the outlines practically sit atop one-another...

Variex frrom Emigre was a design based upon this idea.

Hmm. Nevermind I misunderstood the need. Apologies.

umm, i think i'll need to draw the text directly with a stylus in illustrator which gives me exactly what i need - a single continuous line.

Only problem with this is that my handwriting is not up to much! :)

thanx for all your help.

I have a working master of Handsome which is single-path, if that's any use to you.
Unfortunately, it is an old Fontographer file, and not actually a font, and I can't open those files any more since my new Mac OS no longer does Classic.

Nick, just use Fontographer 4.7 for OS X (or FogLamp, though that won't help much with a stroke-based font).

Thanks Mark, I promise I will get round to upgrading my old Classic software, but I'm somewhat of a prevaricator...

nick, are you using FLS5? if so you should be able to open .vfb files (i think).

With after effects(ver 6.5 & 7) amazing paint tool you can create awesome write on effects with any font...y u need a stroke typeface?

you should be able to open .vfb files

I take it you mean fog files? But they grey out in the FLS5 Open menu.

doh, .fog, yeah. heh.

What about Desdemona? (sorry, I don't have a link, but it's from Adobe, I think....)
