Hi Folks,

Here are two mysteries. The ‘Black Pearl’ script seems very familiar, but I was not able to find it in my Script Guide or my various books. Any ideas about what it is?

The ‘PORTLAND, OR’ titling face seems similar to Waters Titling, but it’s semi-serif. Anyone know what it is?

Thanks for your help,
- Mike

Looks like Michael Harvey’s work.

The script looks a lot like Carolingia. But don’t know if that’s the original …

unknown

The script is also available as a freeware font called Dorovar.

unknown

Ah yes, Dorovar Carolingus. And of course Mike F. knows more about it.

Great work Renko and Skylar. That’s it all right. Thanks. I’ll pass that along to the person with the question.

As for the titling face, I agree Yves, it does resemble some of Michael Harvey’s work, like Strayhorn, but I also found it has similarity to Rotis Semiserif, but not a match. I’d like to know what it is.

Portland is set in URW Alcuin Light.

Thanks Skylar. That’s an attractive font. ‘Nofret’ by Zapf-von Hesse has long been one of my favorites, but I didn’t know about Alcuin before.
