Dumb Quotes on Portable Word Processor

fathairyape

I'm planning to write a novel in the month of November (NaNoWriMo if any of you are familiar with it). I have a Jornada 680e, basically a cute little word processor. My main problem, however, is that it only has dumb quotes and dumb double quotes, I'd guess you'd say? The ' and " aren't curled or anything.

As I transfer it onto my computer / work on the novel on my computer, there's obviously going to be a difference in these quotation marks. If anyone's familiar with this and knows settings to tweak / any programs, that'd be great! :-)

Call it text editor, a word processor does have text formatting or page layout features.

If you want the dumb quotes - you can turn off "smart quotes" in Word etc.,

If you want "smart quotes" I think you can "autoformat" the document to replace the straight quotes - if not I'm sure you'll find a macro to do this on the Web.

Dumb quote = Prime
Dumb double quotes = Double prime

Thanks for the vocabulary, Solipsism. Sii--do you know what macro I'd use? Sorry, I've never really used macros! Thanks, Alessandro!

Tex-EditPlus will do it for you with ease as well.

And if you're importing it into InDesign, it can transmorgrify them for you automajically.

Thanks so much guys! I'll tell you which one works the best!

Even a find & replace can do it for you in Word.

Perhaps that's even more convenient.

Thanks, Action.

Actually, what I did once I read all of these, I decided to find and replace. Originally I figured that the "s would get all screwy. It works perfectly.

Thanks to all!
