Although I don't have a screen shot, I want to know what the font is that is used in the body of A Series of Unfortunate Events. Not the title or chapters font, just the body (regular) text portion. Thanks!
fathairyape,
pardon my stupid question: screen shot, title, chapters - are you talking about a DVD or a book? Google tells me A Series of Unfortunate Events is a children's book series they made a movie from. Since you mention "body text", I assume you mean the book(s).
Looks like an ID request for parents, booksellers or those particularly young at heart. :)
My guess is some kind of caslon perhaps 540?
I was difficult with my crappy amazon sample, you would be able to judge better with the book in front of you; I looked at the capital T, the lowercase g, the capital O and the lowercase t mainly.
It would make sense that it's caslon because it would match the titles which seem to be set in some version of antique caslon,
sorry for vagueness but I hope this helps

Apparently our old friend Cheshire Dave did a review of the books, but seems only to have discussed the cover type (Antique Caslon). I wrote to him to see if he also ID'd the inside text, or could provide a scan.

Late again! I checked a couple of the books out of the library today, and made a scan (attached). I ran the characteristics through the Serif Font ID Guide and Caslon 540 would have been my pick too, but Caslon Classico by Franko Luin was almost identical.
