Another desperate type ID: French Michelin signs

jordanclaire

I'm desperately trying to approximate the gorgeous hand-painted Michelin road signs of France, and am looking for the closest type match to fake them with.

The Roadgeek series doesn't have what I'm looking for. I was offered Caracteres as a possible match, yet the Mac .sit did not contain any font files. Can anybody help me out?

Thanks in advance.

I think the Caracteres are a good match and they work fine for me. Similar could be a mix of Interstate, Blue Highway and FF DIN.

Somebody should do a web page about which typefaces are used for road signs and subway signs in different countries. It's one of those things I often find myself wondering when abroad.

The Caracteres stuffit contains TTConverter1.5, which can't be run on an Intel Mac. Can somebody hook me up?

Contact me through my profile, please. Many thanks.

The TTConverter is a freeware to convert Windows-TTF to Mac-TTF. It works good or less. So the author Frank Rausch probably means if you want to use the font on MacOS >9.x machines try the TTConverter. If you have MacOSX, then use the Windows TTF. It works here and there.
