I for one can't read it - at all. And I assume it's not in some Indic script - but the fact that it -presumably- could be only makes things trickier...

hhp

b, g,
cat, hose, hotdog, beigel :)

Not been funny but I can't read it either. I think you've spent too much time owrking on it, not asking for anyone elses opinion.

Back to the drawing board I say

it's the festival formerly known as prince.

means its not working at all ..I think you guys are right...Actually i wanted to write RGB..which is not coming:(
I'll work on it and will post other samples

here are the few more variations i worked on...Plz tell me what can i do so that people reads it RGB..i want to stuck on this style but :)

"I'm still not getting a reading captain."

Maybe try using a (slab?) serif face as a basis.

hhp

I agree about using a typeface (maybe slab serif) the biggest problem is in not knowing whether the lines represent letters or squiggles.

The first one (or third for that matter) could work if you extend the r a little to obtain the same x-height as the g & b so that it ends halfway down the g-bowl. I actually did read g & b, but missed the r. I like these logo's a lot, even if they're not entirely legible. The third one is best in my opinion.

You have probably already considered using the colours to distinguish the characters, work with transparency. As Tom recommends making the r the same x-height could help.
Tim

I read a "q" and a "b" immediatly on the white spaces you got there.

To be honest, I couldn't read it at all. But still I liked the overall style of it. And now I can read it, I think its awesome.

Keep on with it, try s.th. to make the letters g and b more distinguishable. More apart from each other e.g. And you should consider to stick more to the conventions, like, making the decender of the g (more) curved and and the ascender of the b more straight.

Besides I'm with "ill sans"

Cheers

Not entirely, gr.mon...
I actually like the fact that the g & b are similar & intertwined. I don't think it has to be legible necessarely if somewhere on the flyers etc. you can read rgb festival. I like how you might not immedeately recognize anything in the logo, but after knowing it represents something "discovering" the separate letters.
Very nice work, satya. I've seen some other things of you here & you can consider me a fan! ;-)

Satya, you have a great way of designing. I really like the attitude and personality in your things. They kind of feel different to much else I have seen.

I think your efforts will eventually lead to that you find your own style in graphic design.
You are almost there :)

If you want it to be instantly understood, make the R red, the G green, and the B blue. That's what most people will think of when you say "RGB" anyway.

I think this great, except for the lack of some sort of separation of the geebee, color, stencil, anything. Even then, you might need the name until the logo sticks, simplification having its limits you know...

what do u think of this one..can u make it out?(still lots of corrections to be made..)
just wanted some feedback in between..
and plz also tell me is it OK to make these kind of identities for a fun festival?? i dont know really..

thin version of the same..

Try a triangle frame with a horizontally bisected circle at each
corner, the circles structures modified to look like R, G and B.

I got the idea from the "G" and "e" in the Garnier logo:
http://www.alu.ua.es/n/ncp10/logo_garnier.jpg

Plus a triangle RGB arrangement is how (CRT) TVs/monitors work, no?

hhp

I like the latest one - it's clearly more ... clear - though I don't get why the R is or needs to be an aids ribbon ... just cause?

Out of curiosity, some of the other stuff you've posted shows strong, off-computer development of concept. This on the other hand doesn't. Did you develop any sketches etc? - I'm tipping no.

:)

i never jumped on computer without a concept...my all ideas comes from my doodle book which i always keeps with me....I've made lots of sketches fot the same..its a result of one of my sketch only.

here are a few sketches from my notebook...dont mind the collage plz:)

k. sorry to jump to conclusions then. *BAD ME!!*

... not your strongest work ;)

Paul im agree that the latest design looks like its directly done on computer...dont say sorry plz..and you are not BAD at all :)

Loves your feedback

satya

I like the middle one at the very top.

hhp

But these were done on computer directly :)...

Even though I'd hate to see you abandon your first logo, I like your latest one as well (the top one in blue). There are some nice things in the sketches too, the idea of using a number sequence (reflected 7, 9607) might make a nice logo & still very legiible.
I can't stress this enough, pleààààààse stick to your original! ;-)

one more...:)

Now I think you're getting somewhere with these latest designs. Personally I like the black with turquoise colour scheme best.

I'm guessing that this is a festival focusing on design?

at first i thought it said "dop" but now it loks like rooor?

i think it's just way too organic.

jlt : http://www.hewnandhammered.com : rnrmf!

these all are explorationsssssss..still confused which one to submitt as a final entry. guys plz help.

yes Drew,
its a festival of design and related activities but its a kind of fun as well..which i dont think my designs are reflecting...
i know i could have tried some thing different but i want to make this identity in this style only...
satya

BTW, if you happen to meet Ashwini Deshpande (Elephant Design) at the festival please extend a warm hello from me if you can!

hhp

Ashwini is an alumni of my school only...will sure convey your message.

:)

Try applying this new colour scheme to your first (or third) design (with the interlocking "gb"). It might actually make it more readable.

- Lex

The "b" in the second iteration(s) looks too much like a "6" to me, and the type in this sequence is (again, to me) too heavy.

Also, if I'm understanding correctly, I agree with you Satya that if the festival is supposed to be "fun" the designs thus far aren't quite conveying that. They're too tight, as in clean, as in cold. Good, but chilly.

The first iteration(s) didn't work for me at all; the "r" is totally lost.

satya, you have a nice design sensibility. i think your latest batch is the best. i would just work on the legibilty and maybe adding sharp points to your curves to aid in legibility. take a look at some of hans reichel's typefaces to see what i mean.

some of the latest stuff is looking really web techy v0.01, if that's what you're after ... great!

does the festival centre around web based design only?

----------
Paul Ducco

no its not about the web at all..:( but im agree with you paul that its being to webby..what to do??

> will sure convey your message.

Thank you!

BTW, why not make it Indian - but more "techno".
Maybe a contemporary rigid-humanist take on this:
http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/pixymbols/faux-sanskrit/

hhp

for a start the name is RGB ... Red, green and blue, the additive primaries. RGB is the basic additive color model used for color video display, as on a computer monitor.

I like your last batch best also. Aesthetically, I think I would further develop the straight rgbo7 concept. If you went with that direction, I think there definitely needs to be a color distinction between rgb and o7. The angled concept, however, seems to more appropriately represent a "festival". I like Hrant's last suggestion. Use your current forms as a foundation, then loosen them up a little more. Make the shapes less rigid without losing the general shape. Maybe consider adding some additional graphic elements to further contribute to the festive feel...Being very careful not to make it look trite or hokey.

Aloha,
Scott

Hi satya,

I really like the 'alien' vibe I'm getting from the first one, but I wasn't able to tell what it says :) Have you tried using different colors for the letters in this approach?

I also like the last one you posted, the one you find unbalanced. Perhaps moving the 'r' further up (adjusting so that it still reflects the curve of the 'g') would balance the logo out a bit and frame the middle letter as the focal point. I don't like the "RGB'07" type treatment though :p

||RESULTS OUT||
..here is the identity which got selected...am not happy with this at all..but i cant do anything now, as this one gote the highest student votes. (all the entries were displayed and student voted them..and this is what they liked the most:(
Now i cant make any major changes but ya i can do minor visual corrections and i can change the color scheme though...
plz give your feedback on this.

thanks
satya

Color values: C100, Y100, M100 & K70

And then they call me crazy when I complain about democracy. :-)

hhp

More constructively: it's hard to be sure with a lo-res rendering, but it looks like if you made the top of the "r" more curvy it would hug the "g" better. Also, I think a rounded bottom to the "r" makes more sense.

hhp

agreed hrant.

Whàt kind of school do you go to?!

;-)

My school's name is NID(National Institute of Design), Its a multi desciplinary design school, located at Ahmedabad, India

I was just kidding, Satya, about the fact that most students ended up choosing the final logo.
You made much better designs than this, but that's democracy for you.

And am sure am not gonna add this into my portfolio...I dont like this at all.
