The Philosophy of Sustainable Design - book cover type ID

benknight

I thought the text was Janson, but I just can’t
seem to figure it out.

Could someone please help please out with this one,
I could upload a highter res file later, if that helps.

Best,
Ben

Ouch, fuzzy pic. Haven’t you got anything sharper?

I can’t capture a better pic right now from my copy of the book. Here is another image I found on the interweb.

Without a clearer picture of the serifs, it’s only a guess, but it seems to have a symmetrical T, and a familiar G, and my guess would be Adobe Caslon.

It’s not Adobe Caslon, I’ll upload a more detailed image later.

Thank you all for you concern thus far.

Best,
Ben

Janson?

It is not Janson, it is very close... but not quite, anyone know of any typefaces that come very close to Janson?

I’ve been looking in Rookledge’s Classic International Typefinder to no avail :(

All caps serif fonts are quite hard to identify, so unless you can provide a clearer picture this is going to be a tough call. Sorry’boutthis... :^/

If you have the book and can see the letters clearly, maybe you could try using the Serif Font ID Guide. The E, J and M are the only key search letters in your sample, so you’ll get a few candidate samples to look at, but the samples shown will include a G and C that you can also match against the type.

It might be worth a shot.

Ehrhardt is very close to Janson, but Yves and Mike are right about the small number of key letters to look at in this sample – it’s just not very much to go on.

I found a better sample on the net, and I think Bart is right - is Hoefler.

I agree — that looks like it. Now I see why someone said Janson, with that M, but the only place that showed up was in the other samples, so I tip my hat to Bart. I thought that was a tough one.

- Mike Yanega

Yes, it is Hoefler Titling. Thank you all so much for your help.

Best,
Ben
