My guess is that it's just for decorative purpose.

No, sorry. i don't remember exactly where. i was a tourist for one day and was running around shooting anything interesting. i agree that it's most likely for decorative purpose. at the same time they have a glyph like feel.

It's nice, though. And now I suppose I have to start hunting for it...

I was born in Helsinki and have lived here most of my life, but I'm sure I've never seen that gate!
