(x) Stewardson - Adobe Sans substitution font {Yves}

skyrocket

Hello folks,
Client is saying this font is called "Stewardson" but I can't find it. Looks a bit like News Gothic but I can't match. Anyone...?

I have one sample of a typeface called Stewardson here, but it doesn't look like the one you posted at all, it looks more like Gill.

The more seasoned IDers will probably have a proper answer for you later. I think they're all sleeping at this hour :-)

One close match could be EF TV Nord:

(Too busy to make decent comparisons!)

Argh. Another case of the Adobe Sans... how could I miss it? Oh yeah, it was very late :-)

Nice catch, Yves!

Thanks Yves and everyone,
Not sure what you are talking about with the "aaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhs!" etc...must be a Typophile joke going on there? Anyway - that's a big help. Toodle pip!

Actually - can someone enlighten me briefly as to what the dickens is a Adobe Sans multiple master. I know what a multiple master is but is the Adobe Sans version something that comes packaged in with Adobe products like Illustrator and InDesign? Sorry if this is a dumb question but I've never come across this beast in my typography travels.

Adobe Sans and Adobe Serif are multiple master fonts that ATM (Adobe Type Manager) uses to match the exact proportions of fonts that are missing from files generated by Adobe programs, therefore causing no layout oddities even though the original fonts are not present.

I guess the "aaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhs" are because the font isn't exactly a beauty :-)

Edit: for clarity.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!!!...

Adobe Sans Multiple Master substitution font. So basically
this is not a font, it's merely a replacement courtesy of
SuperATM, in order to allow you to read the text without
having the typeface installed.

For further information on this unnatural phenomenon,
check my fine selection of rants and raves in this thread
from just over a year ago.

Well actually I was, from 6 till 7 a.m. to be precise. :-)
Gawd I'm beat...
