(x) sans serif in Vibe Magazine - Amplitude {Peter Monrad (self)}

Hey,

Can someone tell me what font VIBE magazine is using here. Since it's not the exact font I need, but rather something that looks like it, ideas for similar modern sans fonts are welcome as well. Thanks!

OK, I guess it's a little weird, that I am the first to respond to my own post. I opened up a Wallpaper and there it was again. I searched Typophile for Wallpaper ID and found it.

It's called Amplitude and can be found here: http://www.fontbureau.com/fonts/Amplitude

For my kind of budget it's a little too expensive (1.750 $ for 2-5 cpu license) so I'm still interested in alternatives. Thanks!

Parisine for starters.

What properties of Amplitude would you like in your alternative?
Parisine doesn’t have those ‘character adding’ ink traps.

See and test Xtra Sans at Jarno Lukkarila Type Foundry ( www.jarnolukkarila.com ). You’ll also find more info about the font there.

Stay Tuned! Amplitude is going to be coming to a Font Bureau near you soon sans-traps!

Peter, Amplitude and all other Font Bureau families are available for license as individual styles. No one expects you to pay a lot of money if you only need a few weights and widths. You can view, test, and select particular styles by hitting the "STYLES" tab

Arizona Daily Star commissioned smoothed-out versions for headlines, which I think is what Tiffany referred to. Designer Christian Schwartz shows a preview of this on his site: http://www.orangeitalic.com/amphead.shtml Amplitude Headline is currently available to publication designers. Once the family is entirely filled out, Font Bureau will publish it online. If you're interested in Amplitude Headline specifically, or other Font Bureau sans, just get in touch with us.

and this is just cute: Amplitude on Sports Illustrated for Kids, World Cup Fantastic Four-style:

Hey again,

Thansk for your replies. And thanks to Robb for the tip about individual styles. I should only need about 6 styles which brings it down to 360$ for 2-5 cpu license. That sounds fair.

I'm wondering when the sans-traps is available, Miss Tiffany?

I like Parisine as well and Xtra sans looks good too. What In Amplitude is that it easy too read, it has some nice styles that mixes well and most of all: it doesn't havwe the feel of helvetica, Berthold Akzidenz grotesk, Franklin Gothick etc. which I love and have used a lot, but really need some time away from.

Hey,

While we are at the men's magazines. Esquire stopped using crank8 and are now using a different sans serif. Any ideas? I'd like to know what the fat serif is as well, please.

Peter, Robb answered that question. It seems they are filling out the family and we'll release it when that is finished. :^)

You should start a new thread with your new request. :^)

Peter, as I suggested before, if you’re interested in quoting Amplitude Headline (reduced traps) specifically, or other Font Bureau sans, just get in touch with us directly.

The slab in Esquire is Stag, drawn custom by the very same Christian Schwartz. Apparently available for relicense in 2007. Not sure on the sans.

you should start a new thread ... or wait for someone who knows what it is. :^D

Christian Schwartz really rocks!

... but what about the sans? Maybe I'll start a new thread for that.
