CONNECTING ARABIC TO LATIN SCRIPT

To continue discussions started on the Atypi list recently.

First, disconnect it -or keep it disconnected- from
affectations such as chirography and Modernism.

Work towards symbiosis, not mutual parasitism.

Dear Hrant

I had to run to the dictionary (as usual) to help me understand you post :)

I thought I knew what "chirography" means after I was introduced to it (and Bouma) by you and John few years ago. After the past days of discussions on Atypi list, I am at lost. Please redefine it so I can connect (or disconnect) to it. While you are their can you explain "symbiosis" and "parasitism". I told you I am a simple guy :)

-Saad

Mr. Saad Abulhab, by any chance, did you attend :

Dear Alessadro

Unfortunately I did not. But I am familiar with it. Traveling from New York to Dubai is a big project. But I would love to attend other forums to discuss non traditional Arabic typography one of these days.

-Saad

Saad, I'm getting ready for a trip, and will
try to once again define "chirography" after
I get back. "Symbiosis" and "mutual parasitism"
however are standard terms in biology: the study
of living things (which to me can pertain to scripts).

BTW, we're STILL waiting for the competition results from Kitabat.

I thought it is already posted by Nadine on the Linotype site:

I wish she had showed text samples instead of isolated forms letters.

-Saad

Oh! Thanks. She must be busy lately, since she had
promised to let us know when the results were out.
