Deleting nodes in FontLab Studio 5

Pieter van Rosmalen

Hello All,

In FontLab 4.6 is was possible to select a node by dragging and then deleting it together with the curves from and towards that node.
Is this possible in FontLab Studio 5 for Macintosh (I can’t figure out how)?

Regards,
Pieter

Select the node and type the delete key.

ChrisL

Hello Dezcom,

That will remove the node, but the curves will not be removed, FontLab is reconstructing the shapes.

Pieter

Instead of clicking on the node then deleting, scroll over it to select then press delete.

Nick Cooke

Hello Nick,

When I do that, only the node will be deleted and the curve will be reshaped.

Pieter

Hi, Peter

In order to break the contour when deleting a point you must apply the correct settings in “Options”.

Go to Tools>Options>Glyph Window>Advanced
and check the box where it says “Edit/delete command breaks contour”

That’s it

Regards

Magnus

Hi Magnus,

That’s it! Thank you very much!

Regards,
Pieter

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that.

But now you can either keep the line by clicking on the node and deleting or remove it by scrolling and deleting, which is pretty handy.

Nick Cooke

It is very handy. Thank’s Nick.

Pieter

Pieter,
I forgot to mention the change in preferences! Thnks to Magnus for adding that very important piece of info. When I first started using FL5, I went through the same frustration until Adam told me how to fix the preference.

ChrisL

:) That’s nice but everyone should tell FontLab that there is a “delete” key on the keyboard, and all we really need is a “merge” option, like cmmd-M, or something, ’cause they’ve made something stupefying simple, into something just short of stupefying complex with zero additional functionality and even less additional ease of use.;)
