This thread ran to 3 pages of replies and only one was recovered, so replies are missing.

Does anyone know when the full website will be up and operational for TypeCon 2006? I’m itching to register and find out the full schedule!

Shortly. :^)

It must be “on the truck” Tiff :-)

ChrisL

TypeCon2006 registration is oh-so-close to readiness, friends. Mark your calendars, and plan for a week of typographic goodness.

When Tamye ways in, you know it must be close.

Any font tech workshop(s) ?

David, there will be some juicy font tech workshops on Wednesday and Thursday, August 9-10.

> there will be some juicy font tech workshops

So, no need to bring juice extractor?

Would be great to have some Friday workshops too for those poor working folks who can’t get away midweek.

ohmygod, I’m SO excited!!!

:^D Andi has now displayed the first sign of insanity for the the conference season. I feel it has officially begun now. ;^)

The things it takes to make a Typophile salivate :-)

ChrisL

alright, that really made me laugh out loud. For a split second. Then I realized that I resemble that remark. Now, come on Chris — you can’t all tell me that YOU’RE not excited too!!! And YOU, Tiff!!

Andi, I resemble the same remark. I laughed when you posted because you are the first to “admit” to being excited. Trust me. I started feeling the excitement when I was given my first task for TypeCon (and ATypI). :^P

David, a juice extractor could come in handy at the after-hours parties...

Adam Twardoch, Tom Phinney, and Mark Simonson are teaching the advanced font tech workshops. Jim Lyles, Sue Zafarana, and Steve Zafarana from Bitstream will be teaching the beginner’s sessions. Ilene Strizver will offer her famous Gourmet Typography workshop. We’ll also have Monotype Imaging’s workshops on font QA, font marketing, and experimental type (get your hands dirty), letterpress, traditional calligraphy, Arabic calligraphy (including digitization techniques), illuminated lettering, and engraving.

No Friday workshops, sorry Joshua :( The main conference program will be in full swing, and it will be presentations and panel discussions on that day.

I feel your dizziness, Andi - I’m excited, too!

My post was Joshua’s fault. Last year he helped me get a room-mate and as soon as he posted, I could remember how much fun it was to be in NY and how much I enjoyed all the presentations and information gathering. I just bet you’re all excited and in the thick of things, Tiff! Norbert emailed me earlier regarding the conference and I responded so quickly that I bet I sent sparks along with the reply! Tee hee!

Okay, I’m salivating, Tamye...

Bah, I was hoping Mark might be teaching a lettering workshop. How’s illuminated lettering different? (Never mind: wiki...duh illumination)

I’m hoping to make the whole conference, but I’m in school at that point so I’ll have to skip class to go. Looking forward to meeting more people!

Andi.
Guilty as charged (or charged to be guilty :-)

ChrisL

Bah, I was hoping Mark might be teaching a lettering workshop.

Sorry, I will never reveal my secrets. Not this year, anyway. :-)

Any organized pub tours thinly disguised as signage discovery outings, or somesuch?

I suppose I’ll sign up for the Illuminated Lettering then, Mark. That is if I can get back home from Philly in time. I’m also very interested in the Experimental Type workshop!

Okay Tamye, so like what’s the ETA for registering online? (pant, pant, pant)

MS VTT or just FL? Or VTT with Beat Stamm?

Just FL.

I’m positively giddy with anticipation.

I’m so jealous of all of you! i wish I could afford to come share in the fun, but I can’t afford a plane ticket AND hotel AND the time off from work. Any chance TypeCon might come to the UK next year? We’ve got some nice type too, you know. ;-)

The UK does have its own type conference(s) as well. The St Bride conference, and its spin-off in Birmingham this year.

Cheers,

T

All I can add at this time is: pack some messy clothes!

Now, I’M salivating!

Okay, so it’s been a few days. What’s the estimated time of live registration? Huh? Huh?

A brief note on the conference hotel — I just got off the phone with registration (to add another night to an existing reservation) and they seem to be booking up very fast! They were hardly able to accomodate my request for the addition.

Book now!

oh crap - thanks Zara!

Is there a description and/or schedule of classes? (I couldn’t find one at the site).
Since I know I would never have the patience to make a font, I’d mainly be interested in the design aspect of using fonts.

Fontplayer, I don’t think the descriptions or course listings are available until registration goes live.

Good thing I’m from MA so I can just commute into the city from home!

Zara: How long do we have to submit the boards for the Type Battles?

One less room as of 15 minutes ago. :-)

And one less room as of 5 minutes ago :-)

ChrisL

I think these comments of the rooms booking fast are overblown. I just booked a room and there seemed to be no problem getting exactly what I wanted.

But let me warn Ya’ll, Boston ends up at 95-99% occupied around then and if you wait too long, you’ll be stayin’ in Concord (Con-cudd) or Peabody, (Pea-bud-eee).

Or in my guest room for a nominal fee. :-D

One less hotel room booked as of this morning.

If you get stuck stay near Peabody Square (Pea-bud-ee Skqaaya), or Danvers (Dann-viz), I can pick you up in my car (cah) and drive you into Boston (Bohs-tn).

Are we going to get some sort of lexicon for this conference?

When will we be able to sign up for the conference?

If you go to TypeCon.com and sign up to receive the e-mail newsletter you will be alerted when registration goes live. Also, I’m sure a thread will magically appear when registration goes live. :^)

You sorry bunch are invading my city? Please tell me when so that I can plan to be elsewhere.

August 9-13

ChrisL

Oh, Grumpy, don’t go! We all want to give you a hug!

Geez... I already live in the same state as Grumpy O. Bugger!
