(x) Wallpaper magazine sans - Amplitude {Geoff}

henand

Does anyone know the name of the sans used for headings in Wallpaper mag.

Many Thanks!

Amplitude by Christian Schwartz. Sexy!

I know.....

using a font with inktraps for headlines.. yeesh.

There's a liquor store by my friend's house that uses Bell Centennial Bold Listing on their sign. I cringe every time I see it.

I find it fun, although the traps lose their point. But I imagine whoever did it must find that it gives a different to what could be an otherwise regular sans.

I'm sorry to shock some of you, but I personally think ink traps make bold design statements. I simply luuurve oversized Bell Centennial, FF Hydra, Citizen, Eunuverse and so on.

BTW Geoff, looks like you've been busy while I was gone. I'm in the process tagging and crediting the IDs of the past few days and "bumped into you" a couple of times. Good show. :^)

Traps are sexy when added to the design in a conscious and thoughtful way. Why have such a detail and not use it huge?

> Good show. :^)

Thanks! It was couple of lucky IDs but I swear I AM getting better at this game. ;^)

Re. the traps, personally I agree with the previous replies. I think these traps look pretty tasty at headline sizes along with Carter's swashy Big Caslon.

I agree,
It is sort of "breaking the rules" to set large headlines in a font that is crafted to work optimally in 6 points in a telephone book but as long it is done intentionally with some sort of thoughts behind it... why not?
Rock on

> (...) as long it is done intentionally with some sort of thoughts behind it…

Now you're talking -- this is the secret key why good designers can even make a beautiful design with an ugly typeface.*

I'm pretty sure the ink traps are intentionally exaggerated in Amplitude.
